The objective of this work was to determine the adequate nitrogen (N) dose via fertigation associated with the maximum economic production of maize for silage, in two agricultural crops (summer and winter), in the municipality of Canindé de São Francisco-SE, Brazil. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with four replicates. The treatments consisted of four doses of N (0, 80, 160, and 240 kg ha-1) using urea. The cultivar planted was the hybrid Bt Feroz. The evaluated characteristics were as follows: shoot fresh and dry mass productivity, gross and net incomes, the rate of return and net profit margin. There was an interaction between N doses and agricultural crops for all variables. Higher agroeconomic efficiency in the production of maize for... |

Many researchers have found that physiology, welfare, health, and productivity of ruminants are significantly affected when they are exposed to heat-stress conditions. In such cases, heat-stress may also cause a reduction of farmers’ profit in various ways. Heat-stress levels are significantly affected by the prevailing meteorological conditions. This paper aims to study the potential daily peak heat-stress conditions to which sheep are exposed and to classify them according to the prevailing meteorological conditions. For these purposes, temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and incoming solar radiation data were analyzed. The meteorological data were recorded during the summers of the period 2007 – 2012 by an automated... |

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an oilseed crop that can be grown in different regions and sowing dates, but not all regions and sowing dates are appropriate for the crop development. The aim of this study was to determine yield and growth characteristics of sunflower on seven sowing dates, in Santa Maria, from 2007 to 2012. Five experiments were carried out in a completely randomized factorial design with four replications. The factor "A" was monthly sowing dates from the beginning of August to February and the factor "D" was two sunflower hybrids. Capitulum diameter, maximum leaf area index, maximum height of plants, weight of thousand achenes and yield were determined. In normal or La Niña years the highest yield is reached in September sowing... |
