Winter prevalence of obligate aphid pathogen Pandora neoaphidis mycosis in the host Myzus persicae populations in southern China: modeling description and biocontrol implication BJM
Zhou,Xiang.
Pandora neoaphidis overwintering had been investigated by monitoring its prevalence in Myzus persicae populations in open fields. Cabbage plants in field plots were weekly taken after mycosis initiation, to count and examine the living and dead aphids infected by P. neoaphidis. Based on the field data, infection levels (I) varied with field temperature (T), relative humidity (RH) and aphid count (numbers of living aphids per plant, N) over days (D), fitting well to the modified logistic equation I=0.91/[1+exp(8.5+(2.0H T H RH-20.2NI0)D)] (r²=0.897), where H T indicated daily hours of low temperature (<4°C), H RH daily hours of high air humidity (>90% RH) and I0 primary infection level. The model demonstrated the abiotic and biotic factors...

Tigano,Myrian Silvana; Aljanabi,Salah; Mello,Sueli Corrêa Marques de.
The genetic variability of 22 isolates of the fungi Alternaria alternata and A. cassiae, obtained from Senna obtusifolia, was studied by RAPD analysis. A total of 491 scorable bands were produced with the use of 28 primers. Cluster analysis based on similarities computed from RAPD markers showed two distinct genetic groups of isolates related to both species. RAPD analysis proved to be an efficient method for detecting genetic variability of A. cassiae and A. alternata isolates occurring in S. obtusifolia, and also for distinguishing Alternaria species.

Natural Occurrence of the Entomopathogenic Fungi Metarhizium, Beauveria and Paecilomyces in Soybean Under Till and No-till Cultivation Systems Neotropical Entomology
SOSA-GÓMEZ,DANIEL R.; DELPIN,KATIAÍRES E.; MOSCARDI,FLÁVIO; FARIAS,JOSÉ R. B..
The occurrence of the entomopathogenic fungi Metarhizium, Beauveria and Paecilomyces in soybean under till and no-till cultivation systems was studied. The number of colony forming units per g of soil and per cm² of leaf area was determined. Soil under no-till system showed a higher incidence of entomopathogenic fungi, but no difference in fungal density was observed on leaves. Thus the probability of infection for susceptible leaf inhabiting insects should be similar in both systems.

ACTIVITY OF SOME BRAZILIAN ISOLATES OF ENTOMOPATHOGENIC FUNGI AGAINST THE POULTRY RED MITE DERMANYSSUS GALLINAE DE GEER (ACARI: DERMANYSSIDAE) Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Kasburg,CR; Alves,LFA; Oliveira,DGP; Rohde,C.
ABSTRACT Poultry red mite Dermanyssus gallinae is a cosmopolitan and hematophagous species commonly found in layer houses around the world. Poultry mite infestations may cause anemia, stress, low body weight and egg production, and mortality. Mite control is typically based on chemical products, but they are not effective and leave residues in eggs; therefore, alternative control methods, such as entomopathogenic fungi, need to researched. This study aimed at evaluating, in the laboratory, the activity of Brazilian isolates of entomopathogenic fungi against D. gallinae. The mites were collected from a commercial layer house and were sprayed with conidial suspensions (1 × 108 conidia/mL) of five isolates of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae. All...
