Silva, Fernando Higino de Lima e; Viana, Alexandre Pio; Freitas, Jôsie Cloviane de Oliveira; Santos, Eileen Azevedo; Rodrigues, Daniele Lima; Amaral Junior, Antonio Teixeira do.
Breeding programmes must be improved to accelerate the development of new cultivars due to the commercial importance of passion fruit. This study compared four selection indexes and the REML/BLUP methodology in an assessment of predicted genetic gains in the traits of interest. A total of 81 full-sib progenies derived from the third cycle of recurrent selection were assessed for one harvest in one environment. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with five plants per plot. The following traits were assessed: number of fruits, total yield, fruit mass, fruit longitudinal diameter, fruit transverse diameter, fruit pulp percentage, shell thickness and content of soluble solids. The Mulamba & Mock index produced the best results...

The objective of this study was to compare early selection in sugarcane families through the best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) and simulated individual best linear unbiased prediction (BLUPIS) procedures. We tested 80 full-sib families in an incomplete block experimental design. Statistical analyses were performed using the mixed model methodology. The following traits were determined from the first rattoon: tons of stalks per hectare (TSH), percentage of soluble solids w/w in the juice (Brix), and tons of brix per hectare (TBH). Variance components were estimated by restricted maximum likelihood (REML), and the genotypic values of the families were predicted by BLUP and BLUPIS. The BLUPIS procedure suggested the selection of 30 families with a total...

Selection of interspecific Psidium spp. hybrids resistant to Meloidogyne enterolobii Agronomy
Ribeiro, Rodrigo Moreira; Martins Gomes, Vicente; Pio Viana, Alexandre; Moreira Souza, Ricardo; Santos, Paulo Ricardo dos.
Since 2001, the disease known as 'guava decline', resulting from the interaction between the phytonematode Meloidogyne enterolobii and the fungus Fusarium solanie, has caused direct and indirect economic losses to the entire guava production chain. Given the lack of sources of resistance in guava genotypes, interspecific hybrids of Psidium spp. were obtained for resistance to the nematode M. enterolobii. To classify the level of resistance of the interspecific hybrids, we evaluated the plant classification methodologies proposed by Oostenbrink (1966) and Moura and Régis (1987). Estimates of genetic parameters were obtained using the REML/BLUP approach. Interspecific hybrids resistant to M. enterolobii were selected that can be used as rootstocks or in new...

Selection via simulated individual BLUP based on family genotypic effects in sugarcane PAB
Resende,Marcos Deon Vilela de; Barbosa,Márcio Henrique Pereira.
The objective of this work was to propose a new selection strategy for the initial stages of sugarcane improvement, based on the methodology 'simulated individual BLUP (BLUPIS)', which promotes a dynamic allocation of individuals selected in each full-sib family, using BLUP as a base for both the genotypic effects of the referred families and plot effects. The method proposed applies to single full-sib families or those obtained from unbalanced or balanced diallel crosses, half-sib families and self-pollinated families. BLUPIS indicates the number of individuals to be selected within each family, the total number of clones to be advanced, and the number of families to contribute with selected individuals. Correlation between BLUPIS and true BLUP was 0.96,...

R-environment package for regression analysis PAB
Arnhold,Emmanuel.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to develop a package in the R environment for automating and facilitating the regression analysis. Named easyreg, the package offers five functions. The er1 function performs analyses in 13 models, including linear, nonlinear, and mixed models. The er2 function considers the lack of fit in the analyses and in the following designs: completely randomized, randomized complete block, Latin squares, and repeated Latin squares. The regplot function generates graphics; the bl function estimates two-segment models; and the regtest function tests the equality of parameters and the identity of the models. These functions allow of a great number of analyses and confer practicality and versatility to the regression analysis.
