Deep water geomorphology of the mixed siliciclastic-carbonate system, Gulf of Papua ArchiMer
Francis, Jason M.; Daniell, James J.; Droxler, Andre W.; Dickens, Gerald R.; Bentley, Samuel J.; Peterson, Larry C.; Opdyke, Bradley N.; Beaufort, Luc.
The Gulf of Papua (GoP) has become a focal point for understanding the deposition and accumulation of siliciclastic and carbonate material along and across a low-latitude continental margin. Although studies have addressed submarine geomorphological features on the inner and middle shelves, as well as processes that may have led to their formation, the seafloor of adjacent slope regions remains poorly documented. This study presents and interprets results from approximately 13,000 line-km of multibeam bathymetry, 9500 line-km of 3.5 kHz seismic, and 122 sediment cores that were collected from the GoP shelf edge and slope, primarily on two cruises (PANASH and PECTEN). Bathymetric maps, in conjunction with the seismic profiles and cores, were used to make...

The essential characteristics of these sections are described and the range of habitats of begonias in New Guinea are briefly considered. Aspects of collecting begonias are discussed and some ways forward for future research on Begoniaceae in New Guinea are suggested.

The Bulbophyllum species attributed to section Hymenobractea (Orchidaceae) Naturalis
Witte, L.C. de; Vermeulen, J.J..
A revision is presented of a mainly New Guinean group of species of the genus Bulbophyllum (Orchidaceae) that is generally known as section Hymenobractea. Altogether 7 named taxa have been attributed to this section by previous authors; in this revision only two species are distinguished: Bulbophyllum aemulum and Bulbophyllum infundibuliforme. It appears that Hymenobractea cannot be distinguished from Bulbophyllum sect. Intervallatae (including sect. Dialeipanthe and sect. Lepidorhiza), therefore these two species are included in sect. Intervallatae. A key to the sections morphologically similar to Intervallatae, viz. Leopardinae, Sestochilos and Stenochilus, is included and full information on the two species provided.

Ten species added to the genus Aedeastria De Boer, 1990, with the description of eight new species and notes on the taxonomy and biogeography (Homoptera, Tibicinidae) Naturalis
Boer, A.J. de.
A new concept is proposed for the cicad genus Aedeastria De Boer, 1990, so that ten species can be added, bringing the total number of species to twelve. Of these ten species added to the genus, two (A. latifrons (Blöte) and A. digitata (Blöte)) are redescribed and transferred from Baeturia Stål, while eight species (A. bullata, A. cheesmanae, A. dilobata, A. hastulata, A. kaiensis, and A. moluccensis, A. obiensis, A. waigeuensis) are described as new. A key to the males of Aedeastria is presented. Aedeastria belongs to a group of Australian and New Guinean genera, defined earlier as the “Baeturia and related genera complex” and is very closely related to the genus Thaumastopsaltria Kirkaldy of that complex. Though no cladogram is presented, the...

Zetorchestes-Arten aus Neuguinea und Japan (Acari: Oribatida: Zetorchestidae) Naturalis
Krisper, G..
A redescription of Zetorchestes saltator Oudemans, 1915 is given. In addition to that, two new Zetorchestes-species from New Guinea (Z. novaguineanus spec. nov., Z. vanderhammeni spec. nov.) and one new species from Japan (Z. aokii spec. nov.) are described in this paper. These four and some other similar species are compared in table 1. In the redescription and the descriptions attention is paid to the intraspecific morphological variability of body size, the shape of the anterior edge of the lamella, the position of the notogastric hair la, the number of the notogastric hairs, the number and position of the genital, anal and adanal hairs, and the shape of the edge of the lamella on femur II. It seems likely that the Zetorchestes-species from New Guinea...

A taxonomic revision of the genus Amaracarpus (Rubiaceae, Psychotrieae) Naturalis
Davis, A.P.; Bridson, D.M..
A taxonomic revision of Amaracarpus Blume (Rubiaceae, Psychotrieae) is presented. The salient characteristics of Amaracarpus are given, with particular attention to the differences between Amaracarpus, Dolianthus and Psychotria. The taxonomic account includes a key to species, an informal (artificial) subgeneric classification, full descriptions, and a list of specimens examined. Amaracarpus comprises 22 species: six new combinations are proposed, one new species is described, eight species are moved to other genera, the transfer of 12 species to Psychotria is confirmed, and numerous taxa are placed into synonymy. A checklist of all Amaracarpus names is provided.

Revision of Ryssopterys and transfer to Stigmaphyllon (Malpighiaceae) Naturalis
Anderson, C..
Molecular evidence shows the Old World genus Ryssopterys (Malpighiaceae) nested within the New World genus Stigmaphyllon; therefore, Ryssopterys is here transferred to Stigmaphyllon as subg. Ryssopterys. The subgenera share most vegetative and fruit characters. Subgenus Stigmaphyllon comprises 92 species characterized by hermaphrodite, bilaterally symmetrical flowers. Subgenus Ryssopterys includes 21 species that appear androdioecious but are probably functionally dioecious; the flowers are either hermaphrodite but likely functionally female, owing to inaperturate pollen, or male with a rudimentary gynoecium. All species have radially symmetrical flowers in which all parts of each floral whorl are equal; they lack calyx glands as well as the stylar...

A revision is presented of six sections of the genus Bulbophyllum (Orchidaceae): sect. Adelopetalum (mainly occurring in Australia), sect. Lepanthanthe, sect. Macrouris, sect. Pelma, sect. Peltopus, and sect. Uncifera (all mainly occurring in New Guinea). Together these include 110 species and 9 subspecies. Fortyseven species and 4 subspecies are new; they are either described in this revision or in precursors to this revision. The genus Dactylorhynchus is reduced to Bulbophyllum. Keys to the species, as well as synonymy, descriptions and illustrations of each species are provided. Some aspects of the morphology of the plants are discussed. A cladistic analysis of each revised section is given. A method to select the closest outgroup species from a number...

Revisionary notes on the subfamily Homolobinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) Naturalis
Achterberg, C. van.
Two new species of the genus Homolobus Foerster, 1862, one from Lombok, Java, the other from New Guinea, are described. The genus Westwoodiella Szépligeti, 1904, is redescribed and illustrated; the new tribe Westwoodiellini is created to include it in the subfamily Homolobinae. Rogas pectoralis Herrich-Schäffer, 1838 is synonymized with Homolobus discolor (Wesmael, 1835) syn. nov., and R. simplex Herrich-Schäffer, 1838 with Homolobus annulicornis (Nees, 1834) syn. nov. Homolobus simplex (Watanabe, 1932) nee Herrich-Schäffer, 1838 is renamed as H. watanabei nom. nov.
