Características oceanográficas físicas frente a Ecuador durante abril de 1995 OceanDocs
Cuadra, T. de la.
More than one hundred oceanographic stations were occupied between the Galápagos Archipiélago and the Ecuadorian coast during April-May 1995. All the information were treated statically using the method of ”Kriging” to interpolate; from this, surface distribution of sea temperature, sea temperature anomalies, air temperature, and atmospheric presion were obtained. These distributions with temperature and salinity profiles showed the end of the warm period 1994-1995. Upwelling events were detected and were supposed to about 24% of AESS. From the mass water analysis carried out to the east San Cristóbal. It was found a probable relationship between the AESS and the ASTS, and the pelagic fisheries.

An Ocean Theme for the IGOS Partnership OceanDocs
The Integrated Global Observing Strategy Partnership (IGOS-P) established, in 1999, a thematic approach to the implementation of the IGOS. Recognising that other themes will emerge, the “Ocean Theme” was chosen to be the “pathfinder” in this approach and an Ocean Theme Team was assembled to formulate guidance. One goal of the Ocean Theme Team is to consider and study the full range of current and planned observations, while identifying potential gaps in future observations that might compromise ocean observational records. This document presents a proposed set of long-term ocean observations and identifies a number of challenges for the improvement of knowledge about both the oceans and observing techniques. The overall strategy is to create an observing...

Report on the Medi Pilot Project OceanDocs
Reed, G..
The Marine Environmental Data Information Referral Catalogue (MEDI) is a directory system for datasets, data catalogues and data inventories within the framework of the IOC's International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) system. The IOC Working Group on International Oceanographic Data Exchange (now IOC Committee on International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange - IODE) at its Fifth Session (September 1971) recommended the establishment of a Joint Task Team on Interdisciplinary and Inter-organizational Data and Information Management and Referral (IMAR), with participation by interested international organisations. The team was asked to assess on-going information and data management activities within the respective...

NODC Report: Madagascar OceanDocs
Born in 1992 out of the three entities (Marine Station, Department of Applied Oceanology and the Department of Fisheries High Training), the IH.SM has the task of training and Applied Research on Development. Attached to the University of Toliara, the Ministry of University studies (MINESUP). It is equipped with laboratories, aquaculture farm, specialized library. Thus, it regularly receives foreign trainees. We have built in its premises a house for the implementation of our NODC. Composed of 35 members (national and international residents), the IHSM only has 04 peoples for the ODINEA and RECOSCIX-WIO projects.

First ODINCINDIO Training Course in Ocean Data Management OceanDocs
Recognizing that the lives of at laest 1.5 Billion people are profoundly influenced by the Indian Ocean and considering that many Indian Ocean rim countries depend to a large extent on marine and coastal resources, the ability to acquire, manage, archive and disseminate data, as well as the capacity to generate information in support of decision making and management of the oceans and coastal zones is of vital importance. The Ocean Data and Information Network for the Central Indian Ocean Region (ODINCINDIO) Project responds to these needs through: - Provinding assistance in the development and operation of National Oceanographic Data Centres and the establishment of their networking in the IOCINDIO region - Providing training oppportunities in marine...

Global Oceanographic Data Archaeology and Rescue (GODAR) OceanDocs
Levitus, S..
The IOC Global Oceanographic Data Archaeology and Rescue (GODAR) Project was established by the IOC in 1993. The goal of the project is to expand the historical database of ocean profile-plankton data. The project does this by: 1) locating historical data that are at risk of being lost due to media decay and disasters (archaeology). For example, paper and/or electronic media can become unreadable with time and/or they can be lost due to fire, flooding and other disasters; 2) digitizing manuscript data and copying data in electronic form that are at risk of loss and transferring these data into internationally available databases (rescue). The IOC World Ocean Database (WOD) Project was established by the IOC in 2001. The purpose of the WOD Project is to...

The IODE Resource Kit Pilot Project OceanDocs
Reed, G..
The International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) Resource Kit is a CD-ROM based product that contains a range of marine data management and information management material, including software, quality control and analysis strategies, training manuals, and relevant IOC documents. It is a comprehensive self-training and resource tool for newly established Oceanographic Data Centres, designed to assist managers and staff members to acquire the skills to set up and run new IODE centres. The Kit provides a broad spectrum of background information on global data and information archiving activities, specifications for data storage in “standard formats,” and the software tools to perform many quality control, sub-setting, and analyses...

Towards the development of environmental indices for the Namibian shelf, with particular reference to fisheries management. OceanDocs
Bartholomae, Ch.; Van der Plas, A..
The Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has the task of collecting and providing relevant oceanographic information for management of their fisheries. However, quality information is difficult to provide because of the complexity of the processes involved in the Namibian marine ecosystem. Nonetheless, there are oceanographic data available that can contribute to fisheries management by improving the general understanding of important oceanographic processes related to fisheries. The focus of this paper is on the development of simple environmental indices that can serve as a measurement or proxy of the state or intensity of certain important oceanographic processes or variables for temporal comparison. These indices relate to oceanographic...

Características oceanográficas frente a Ecuador (Crucero T94/12/06 P-O, diciembre de 1994) OceanDocs
Cuadra, T. de la.
In front of the ecuadorian coast, the subsuperficial thermic structure at the sea, was detected being warm during december 1994, as a result of the advection of high temperature water from the West Pacific to the East Pacific Ocean. This oceanographical condition appared different from those of december 1992, even when meteorological conditions seemed to be quite similar to those in 1992, even when meteorological conditions seemed to be quite similar to those in 1992. The appearance of certain ridgings that apparently are related to the botton shape would provoke an enrichment of disolved inorganical nutrients and therefore hight primary productivity. This in turn would imply that, in the sites redarded as ”bajos”, the potential fishery resources are...
