| Tetragonisca fiebrigi Schwarz 1938 es una abeja sin aguijón conocida como yateí en Argentina y Paraguay. Al igual que otras especies de Meliponini, esta abeja nativa produce miel en botijas, con acidez y humedad más elevadas que los requisitos en mieles de Apis mellifera L. Se compararon 16 muestras de miel de T. fiebrigi producidas en la provincia de Misiones, Argentina y en el departamento de Itapuá, Paraguay según su contenido de humedad por refractometría, el color instrumental, la capacidad antioxidante en equivalentes de Trolox (TEAC) con el método del catión radical ABTS.+, el contenido de flavonoides con el cloruro de aluminio y el de polifenoles totales con el reactivo Folin Ciocalteu, y la actividad antibacteriana. | El género Aeschynomene (Leguminosae-Dalbergieae) en Argentina y Paraguay. En este trabajo se citan 20 especies de Aeschynomene L. para la región. A parviflora Mich. se confirma para la flora de Argentina, lo mismo que A viscidula Michx. para la flora de Bolivia, Paraguay y Argentina. Se cita por primera vez para Paraguay a A. elegans Schltdl. & Cham y A. brasiliana (Poir.) DC. El trabajo incluye descripciones, clave de identificación, ilustraciones y distribución de las especies en la región, incluyendo colecciones modernas, especialmente las de Bolivia, país donde nunca se trató el género. Se pudieron estudiar la mayoría de los ejemplares tipo de las especies, leptotipificando o neotipificando otras. |

| Waltheria carmensarae, a homostylous species from northeastern Argentina, southeastern Paraguay, and central Venezuela, and W. procumbens, a distylous species from northeastern Paraguay, are newly described and illustrated. Both species share along with some other species of Waltheria sect. Waltheria and all of sect. Stegowaltheria an elongate-plumose stigma, adaxial petals with raised succulent midribs, petals adnate to the stamen tube for more than 0.8 mm in length, and a capsule with hardened endocarp only at the apex. | Se estudió la avifauna de hábitats típicos de dos ecorregiones, el Pantanal y el Chaco, en el norte de Paraguay (departamento de Alto Paraguay) mediante transectas y observaciones puntuales. Se detectaron 132 especies (109 en bosque y 75 en río), de las cuales 37 utilizaban además hábitats modificados. Las especies más abundantes fueron Phalacrocorax olivaceus, Pitangus sulphuratus y Gnorimopsar chopi en el río y Agelaioides badius, Coryphospingus cucullatus y Sicalis luteola en el bosque. Doce especies en el río y 11 en el bosque aparecieron en el 100% de los recorridos de las transectas, siendo 5 de ellas comunes a ambas zonas. | I conducted a small mammal trapping study in the central Paraguayan Chaco region of South America to investigate habitat selection by small mammals at different spatial scales. Small mammals were collected in forest, successional thorn scrub, pasture, and crop fields representing both relatively undisturbed habitats and agroecosystems. A total of 1089 small mammals representing 13 species were captured during 23 296 trap nights. Pastures had the highest species richness as well as the highest number of captures. Some small mammal species such as Calomys laucha and Akodon toba were captured in a variety of habitats whereas others like Holochilus chacarius and Bolomys lasiurus were captured almost exclusively in pastures. | Because of taxonomic difficulty with southern South American Myotis, the systematic status and distribution of M. levis remains unresolved. At the center of discussion is whether M. levis occurs in Paraguay. We report the occurrence of M. levis in Paraguay and substantiate our findings with comparative phenotypic and morphometric data for southern South American Myotis. This record closes a geographic gap for this species, whose distribution now includes parts of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. |

| Recent field work in Paraguay has increased our knowledge of its mammal fauna, especially in terms of its distribution. Herein, we report three specimens of Monodelphis kunsi (Didelphidae), which are the first for the country and represent a significant range extension for this species. Two of the specimens come from a natural mixture of Cerrado and Atlantic Forest, on eastern Paraguay, whereas the third one is from the central Chaco. We review other records of Monodelphis species for the country and discuss geographic variation among M. kunsi specimens in Paraguay, as well as in regard to previous records in South America. Although this wide geographic range includes distinct habitats, we found no evidence of significant variation among specimens. |
