| Breeding programmes must be improved to accelerate the development of new cultivars due to the commercial importance of passion fruit. This study compared four selection indexes and the REML/BLUP methodology in an assessment of predicted genetic gains in the traits of interest. A total of 81 full-sib progenies derived from the third cycle of recurrent selection were assessed for one harvest in one environment. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with five plants per plot. | The aim of this work was to verify the efficiency of the anticipated selection of superior plants in intrapopulation breeding of passion fruit. The experiment was conducted at the Mato Grosso State University experimental area. Eight populations were evaluated. Planting was carried out in August 2010 following the randomized blocks experimental design, with ten repeats and ten plants per plot. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar as correlações genotípicas e fenotípicas entre 25 características morfológicas e agronômicas de folhas, flores e frutos de maracujazeiro. Assim, 17 acessos de germoplasma foram avaliados em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com duas repetições e dez plantas úteis por parcela. Os dados foram padronizados e em seguida estimados os coeficientes de correlação fenotípica (r f) e genotípica (r g). | This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of extracts of Passiflora edulis Sims leaves on the oxidative metabolism of rat peritoneal neutrophils using a model of acute inflammation. The extract was obtained by maceration in 70% ethanol, evaporation under reduced pressure and lyophilisation. Total phenolic content (TP) was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu assay. | ABSTRACT: The study aimed to develop and validate a standard area diagram set (SADs) to improve accuracy, precision, and reproducibility in the assessment of scab severity in trilobed leaves of the sour passion fruit. The SADs comprised six severity levels (1%; 3%; 6%; 11%; 21%; and 33%). The SADs increased the accuracy of the estimates by reducing the constant and systematic errors, and the tendency to overestimate the actual severity, limited the number of evaluators who presented this trend, in addition to increasing the bias correction factor. The inexperienced evaluators were the ones that benefited the most from the SADs use. | A qualidade de frutos de maracujá para o consumo in natura é um fator de extrema importância na comercialização para o mercado europeu. Diante disso, um experimento foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar as características físico-químicas de frutos de maracujazeiro nas condições de cerrado. Utilizou-se um delineamento de blocos casualizados, com nove tratamentos e quatro repetições. | Abstract This study developed and validated a standard area diagram set (SADs) for severity assessment of bacterial spot (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. ) in passifloraefruits of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis). The SADs consisted of eight severity levels (1%; 3%; 5%; 10%; 21%; 38%; 65%; and 80%). For its validation, 20 raters, who initially estimated the disease severity without the aid of the SADs, were divided into groups (G1 and G3, inexperienced; G2 and G4, experienced). | Abstract The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of irrigation and deep planting of tall yellow passion fruit seedlings in the organic system on fruit quality and productivity. | Objetivou-se estimar parâmetros genéticos associados a onze características agronômicas de uma população de maracujazeiro amarelo sob seleção recorrente, utilizando-se 140 progênies de irmãos completos do segundo ciclo, com plantio em outubro de 2007, em delineamento látice quadrado simples e parcelas constituídas de três plantas. Os quadrados médios das características revelaram significância pelo teste F para o efeito de progênies, indicando que existe variabilidade genética a ser explorada nos próximos ciclos.
