Evaluation of grain sorghum hybrids for aluminum tolerance in nutrient solution Agronomy

 Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) is one of the most important cereal crops in the world. In Brazil, the acreage of grain sorghum during off-season is quite expansive. Most of this area is the Cerrado, a Brazilian biome that is similar to a Savannah and is characterized by high acidity and soluble aluminum at toxic levels for plants. The aluminum acts as a limiting factor in achieving high yields. The purpose of this work was to phenotype sorghum hybrids for aluminum tolerance. Eighteen hybrids were evaluated in a nutrient solution containing {0} or {27} µM Al3+. The work was carried out in a growth chamber at the Embrapa Maize and Sorghum, from April 4 to May 30, 2014. Parental selection in diallel crosses of Jatropha curcas using mixed models Agronomy

Diallel crosses in an unbalanced scheme were carried out in Jatropha to (i) evaluate the additive and non-additive genetic components; (ii) select parents through the general combining ability; (iii) estimate the specific combining ability used in the crosses; and (iv) verify the existence of the maternal effect and inbreeding depression. The experiment was carried out in a complete diallel scheme with four progenitors, unbalanced for the number of crosses. New high-yielding conventional soybean adapted to the states of Goiás, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso, Brazil Agronomy

This paper aims to present the features of the new soybean cultivar UFUS Milionária, which was developed by the Soybean Improvement Program of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) through crossing between IAC-100 and Cristalina RCH cultivars, using the Single Seed Descent (SSD) method. UFUS Milionária is resistant to many diseases caused by the fungus, bacteria, and virus. In addition, it also has been proved well-adapted to many Brazilian states, showing high yield even under water deficit conditions and Asian-rust infection; average yield was 4,451 kg ha-1 in 2015/16 growing season.

La resistencia cuantitativa es reconocida por tener la habilidad de reducir el incremento de la enfermedad. Sin embargo, Evaluar la capacidad de frenar la diseminación de la enfermedad bajo condiciones de campo y apreciar su efecto en el rendimiento, no es frecuente en los trabajos de mejoramiento, pero es un elemento necesario de rastreo y evaluación del avance del proceso de mejoramiento. Reproduction of Meloidogyne enterolobii in lettuce cultivars of the American group Horticultura Brasileira

Lettuce is the main vegetable cultivated in Brazil, in volume and in marketed value. There are ranges of diseases which may affect lettuce crops, including those caused by root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.). We evaluated the reproductive potential of Meloidogyne enterolobii in 22 lettuce cultivars. The plants were inoculated with 5,000 eggs and eventuals second stage juveniles of nematode per pot, two days after the transplanting. Prospecting of tomato hybrids for table and industry via mixed modeling and multivariate analysis Horticultura Brasileira

ABSTRACT Dual-purpose tomato breeding, for table and industry, has great importance for tomato production and strong impact on Brazilian socioeconomic development. In the present study, we used the methodology of mixed models to estimate the combinatorial ability of five tomato lines evaluated in complete diallel scheme without reciprocal, and cluster analysis to prospect new double and triple hybrids constitutions. Thus, we observed that positive values of general combining ability occur in ‘B13LD’, ‘Viradoro’ and ‘Rio Grande’ (for fruit firmness), ‘B13LD’, ‘Castone’ and ‘Massag-72’ (for soluble solids content); and ‘Viradoro’ and ‘Rio Grande’ (for productivity).
