| In order to find the global parameters which could explain the growth of Pacific Oyster Crassosrrea gigas. a survey of Pacific Oyster's growth has been done in Brittany from 1990 to 1995 and in France from 1993 to 1995. The analysis shows the positive influence of rain amount on weight grov,th except in eutrophic areas where it is the contrary. It also shows the positive influence of temperature provided it stays within an optimal range. statistically defined. Some characteristics of the production areas have been reviewed without achieving clear explanation of growth differences between sites. Further studies are necessary particularly in hydrodynamics and primary production determinism to progress. |

| Since 1998, a growth and quality monitoring study of reared molluscs has been developped as part of a close collaboration between the Shellfish Research Laboratory of Normandy (IFREMER Port-en-Bessin, Calvados) and the SMEL (Syndicat Mixte d'Expansion du Littoral) Experimental Centre (Blainville, Manche). REMONOR (REseau MOllusque de NORmandie) is based on the experience gained through the national monitoring network REMORA, which protocol has been entirely applied. | The first half of 2007 is characterised by very low summer mortality rates (spring mortality has not been analysed due to the bad quality of the original batch). This low rate concerns the two different size classes of each station except Géfosse (BV02) where a high mortality has been monitored (see SUMON monitoring). Growth seems significant, but the adults' initial weight required a finer analysis. Juveniles had a larger growth than the previous years, and especially on the west coast. On the adult side, maturation was well advanced in June, but the September biometrics showed disparate filling rates between the different stations, and had us suppose that the spawning season was on. |

Samplings are carried out in March, June, September and December. In this way this network assess seasonal mortality, growth and quality of cupped oysters, in which it is a tool for trend estimations, and then for ecosystem management or scientific studies. | The network REMORA by IFREMER quarterly follows each year 2 batches of Pacific cupped oysters Crassostrea gigas ("juveniles"= 1 year old; and "adults" = 2 years old) on various sites among the main French oyster areas. The network monitored 46 sites in 2004, including the 7 new sites added in 2003. The network REMORA thus assess seasonal survival, growth and quality of cupped oysters. It is a tool for trend estimations, ecosystem management and a reference frame for scientific studies. | Every year, from March to December, the IFREMER / REMORA network carries out a survey of mortality, growth and quality criteria of two oyster batches ("juveniles" = one-year ciass ; and "adults" = two-years class), distributed among various stations of the main French oyster areas. In Brittany, this network includes 11 points, to which regional points can be added (15 in 2000). With regard to the Breton stations of the network, the year 2000 showed rather low mortality rates, excepted mortality of several oysters when transfered to the sea.
