| ABSTRACT The genera Iguana and Ctenosaura belong to the Iguanidae family, and populations of most species of these genera have decreased due to anthropogenic effects. The natural history of most species of this family is poorly known, including Ctenosaura similis. Therefore, this study documents some ecological aspects of the species, such as its feeding habits, and habitat and microhabitat use in a population of Isla Contoy in Quintana Roo, Mexico. The data showed that even though C. similis is distributed throughout the island, individuals more commonly use human construction (buildings) of Parque Nacional Isla Contoy (PNIC) and mangrove areas. | Ten species of Testudines, from four different families: Chelidae, Kinosternidae, Podocnemididae, and Testudinidae, are reported from the Tiputini Biodiversity Station (Universidad San Francisco de Quito), northeastern Amazonian Ecuador; including the second report from Ecuador of Batrachemys heliostemma. These ten species are sympatric but not completely syntopic, thus I comment on their diversity and habitat preferences patterns. | O presente estudo teve como objetivo estudar os hábitos alimentares das serpentes em Espigão do Oeste, Rondônia (Sudoeste da Amazônia), Brasil. As serpentes foram registradas através de procura limitada por tempo, armadilhas de interceptação e queda, coleta por terceiros e encontros ocasionais. As serpentes coletadas tiveram o conteúdo estomacal e intestinal examinados. Em 89 espécimes pertencentes a 31 espécies de serpentes foram registradas informações sobre alimentação. | The dietary compositions of two sit-and-wait lizard species, Hemidactylus mabouia and Phyllopezus pollicaris, which co-occur over rocky substrate and vertical rock walls in a perianthropic area of western Brazil, were described. Both species showed a generalist feeding pattern, feeding mainly on insects. The most frequent prey items in the diet of P. pollicaris were Coleoptera, Araneae and Homoptera whereas the most important were Coleoptera and Homoptera, respectively. | Este trabalho teve como objetivo o estudo da diversidade da herpetofauna do Parque Estadual da Ilha Anchieta, município de Ubatuba, localizada no litoral norte do estado de São Paulo, enfocando os seguintes aspectos: diversidade, distribuição e padrões de atividade sazonal. | O presente trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar o resultado de um levantamento herpetofaunístico realizado na floresta do baixo rio Moa, em Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre. O estudo foi realizado entre fevereiro de 2008 e setembro de 2009, sendo as espécies registradas através de armadilhas de interceptação e queda (AIQ), procura limita por tempo (PLT), busca ativa (BA), amostragem em sítios reprodutivos (ASR) e encontros ocasionais (EO). | As serpentes Bothriopsis bilineatus e Bothrops atrox são viperídeos simpátricos na Amazônia, sendo B. atrox comum e B. bilineatus mais rara. Ambas espécies apresentam uma dieta generalista, sendo que B. atrox forrageia principalmente sobre o chão e B. bilineatus é mais arborícola. | We surveyed the herpetofauna from the Complex of Planalto da Ibiapaba (CPI), CE, Brazil, during two years, using five sampling methods and information available in the literature. The amphibians are represented by 38 species distributed into nine families. The reptiles found summed 84 species, distributed into 25 families. Most amphibians collected exhibited wide occurrence along CPI, where we recorded 24 species (63.2%), which occurred at least in 60% of the sampled environments. Reptiles showed a different pattern, since 52 species (62.6%) had a restricted distribution (up to two environments). | The plastral spotting variation in the chelid turtle Phrynops hilarii (Duméril & Bibron, 1835) in relation to sex, size, and geographic procedence of individuals was analyzed. States for qualitative characters were analyzed using non-parametric tests. Quantitative characters (shell and scute measurements) were standardized for body size by linear regression against carapace length, and were subjected to principal components analysis and canonical discriminant function analysis. | Sexual differentiation of the marine leatherback turtle is sensitive to temperature. Incubation of eggs below 29 degree C results in 100% males, whereas incubationa bove 30 degree C results in 100% potential females at hatching. Therefore, the threshold temperature lies between 29 and 30 degree C as has been found for other marine turtles (Caretta caretta, Chelonia mydas ). Among hatchlings from natural nests in French Guiana, 10% were males, 20% were potential females and 70% had an intermediate phenotype. Two localities at heights of 30 and 35 m could be studied, whereas data on a third site were obtained through information from other participants.
