According to Karl Popper, economics and agricultural economics should be deemed scientific if the theories (hypotheses) are subject to strict tests. The testing of agro-economic theories goes back 50 years in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Japan, and these methods are becoming increasingly part of educational research methodology. Simulation models are valuable tools in the analysis of complex, highly constrained economic systems unsuitable for solution by mathematical programming. However, model size may hamper the efforts of practitioners to efficiently identify the most valuable configurations. This paper investigates the efficacy of a new metaheuristic procedure, compressed annealing, for the solution of large, constrained systems. Essentially all empirical questions that are addressed with sample data require estimates of sampling variance. The econometrics and statistics literatures show that these estimates depend critically on the design of the sample. The sample for the U.S. Current Population Survey (CPS), which serves as the basis for official poverty, unemployment, and earnings estimates, results from a stratified and clustered design. Taking Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province, China as an example, evaluation index system of urban land intensive use is established from four aspects of land economic benefit, land utilization degree, investment intensity, and sustainable utilization. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to determine the weight of evaluation index in research region. Taking the index numerical value of Hubei Province as the standard value, index value of the research region is evaluated. Combining with the index weight obtained by AHP, urban land intensive use is evaluated by the weighted average. Cure models are a special type of survival analysis model where it is assumed that there are a proportion of subjects who will never experience the event and thus the survival curve will eventually reach a plateau. In population-based cancer studies, cure is said to occur when the mortality (hazard) rate in the diseased group of individuals returns to the same level as that expected in the general population.
