| Wetlands in most parts of the world are under threat of over-exploitation partly because their socio-economic value is not well known. Yala Wetland, the largest freshwater wetland in Kenya, with a large part of it bordering Lake Victoria’s shoreline, faces even greater threats of extinction. | La pesca recreativa es una variedad turística practicada alrededor del mundo, siendo cada vez más preferida la captura y liberación. Pocos estudios han sido realizados sobre las pesquerías recreativas en Cuba y ninguno enfocado a las características socio-económicas de la misma. Los objetivos del presente trabajo son (1) caracterizar socioeconómicamente las pesquerías recreativas en Jardines de la Reina y (2) evaluar la percepción de los visitantes sobre la conservación de los recursos naturales del área.
