A catalog of Bryophyta types deposited at the National Museum of Brazil Acta Botanica
Câmara,Paulo E.A.S.; Carvalho-Silva,Micheline; Silva,Maria Sulamita Dias da; Peralta,Denilson Fernandes.
While visiting the Herbarium of the Botany Department of the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (code, R), we located the types of 219 bryophyte names, most of which were published by Karl Müller (cited as Müller Hallensis), whose holotypes were lost during the bombing of the Berlin Herbarium in 1943. A total of 181 names (82%) are possible candidates for lectotypification and most likely not to be found elsewhere. We also found the complete collection of Müller's "Bryologia Serrae Itatiaiae", made by Ernst Ule.

Lectotypes for species of Passiflora L. (Passifloraceae) described by João Barbosa Rodrigues Acta Botanica
Mezzonato-Pires,Ana Carolina; Milward-de-Azevedo,and Michaele Alvim.
ABSTRACT During taxonomic review of the Brazilian species of the Passiflora subgenus Astrophea and P. subg Decaloba, six names published by the Brazilian botanist João Barbosa Rodrigues were found in need of discussion: Passiflora alliacea, P. amalocarpa, P. cabedelensis, P. hexagonocarpa, P. hydrophila and Tacsonia coccinea. The original illustrations are here designated as lectotypes for P. alliacea, P. amalocarpa, P. cabedelensis (a synonym of P. amalocarpa), P. hexagonocarpa, P. hydrophila (a synonym of P. costata) and Tacsonia coccinea (a synonym of P. spinosa).

Typification of some species names in Elaphoglossum section Polytrichia (Dryopteridaceae) from Brazil Acta Botanica
Matos,Fernando Bittencourt.
The fern genus Elaphoglossum has received a great deal of attention in Brazil over the last two centuries. Nevertheless, many of the early names remain inadequately typified. In this paper, the nomenclature of some Brazilian species of Elaphoglossum sect. Polytrichia is discussed under the rules and recommendations of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants. Lectotypes are designated for the following names: Acrostichum amplissimum Fée; A. apodum Kaulf. var. sprucei Baker; A. glaziovii Fée; A. lindbergii Mett. ex Kuhn; A. prestonii Baker; Elaphoglossum spannagelii Rosenst.; and Elaphoglossum ulei H. Christ. Most of these types were collected in Brazil during the 19th century and are now preserved in several European herbaria.

Type material of Carlos L. Spegazzini in the Museo de La Plata Herbarium (LP), Argentina: III: Cactaceae Darwiniana
Katinas,Liliana; Gutiérrez,Diego G.; Torres Robles,Silvia S..
A catalogue of the Cactaceae type material of Carlos Luis Spegazzini (1858-1926) deposited in the Herbarium of Museo de La Plata (LP), Argentina, is presented. Spegazzini´s collection of vascular plant types includes ca. 700 specimens. This analysis revealed 93 type specimens and photographs of the specimens of the family Cactaceae, 70 of which are deposited in LP. This article includes a list of original names arranged alphabetically, the current names with authors, the original citation or protologue, the exsiccatae followed by the type category, the photographs of the specimens taken by Spegazzini, and all significant observations. In addition, some photographs of living specimens taken by Spegazzini and a list of specimens not found in LP were also...

Types of Facets on the Superior Articular Surface of Isan-Thai Dried Calcanei International Journal of Morphology
Iamsaard,Sitthichai; Uabundit,Nongnut; Boonruangsri,Porntip; Sawatpanich,Tarinee; Hipkaeo,Wiphawi.
The patterns of talar articulating facets must be concerned in surgical procedure or the internal and external fixation in various diseases of the foot. The variant types of calcaneal facets on the superior articular surface have been reported in many races except in Thais. This study therefore was aimed to investigate the patterns of superior articulating facet of dried calcanei in Isan-Thais. The identified 396 Isan- Thai dried calcanei (202 males and 194 females) were carried out for variant superior facet observations. The results showed that types of facets observed could be classified into three major types (Type 1 [60.86%], Type 2 [38.64%], and Type 4 [0.51%], respectively). In sub-type classifications, there were Type 1A (24.75%), Type 1B (36.11%),...

The MNHN taxonomic referential: state and ongoing developments Naturalis
Bruckert, R..
The relational database of taxonomic references developed in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), in Paris, has been greatly improved. New names, principally synonyms, have been added to the database following four lines: (1) The referential has been improved taxonomically: type-species of genera have been defined; species names renamed by nomina nova have been searched and entered as well as the source(s) of conflict of the species homonym(s); also, combinatio nova or new combinations of species names given by authors of new genera have been databased. (2) The names which were found written on the labels of the specimens of the MNHN collection have been databased. The computerization of the MNHN collection has started with the Suboscines,...

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 8. The types of Turdinus kalulongae Sharpe, 1893, a synonym of Malacopteron magnirostre cinereocapillum (Salvadori, 1868) Naturalis
Dickinson, E.C..
Two types of Turdinus kalulongae Sharpe, 1893, exist. The specimen at Tring is a lectotype, not a holotype as listed. The designation was indirect but consistent with the Rules of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. The case well illustrates the preciseness of the applicability of the Rules in action.

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 15. Nomenclatural issues concerning the common sand martin Riparia riparia (Linnaeus, 1758) and the pale sand martin R. diluta (Sharpe & Wyatt, 1893), with a new synonymy Naturalis
Loskot, V.M.; Dickinson, E.C..
A female of Riparia diluta in the ZISP collection and collected by Severtsov, which has sometimes been supposed to belong to the type series, is found to be this species but not the same subspecies and only a topotype. We designate a lectotype for R. diluta as Severtsov’s material was composite. Names introduced by Zarudny (1916) are evaluated and the synonymy of these two species is corrected to take into account the findings of both Zarudny and later workers.

Review of the family Halopterididae (Hydrozoa, Cnidaria) Naturalis
Schuchert, P..
All genera and species of the hydrozoan family Halopterididae are reviewed. Where material was available, species are described and figured and the extent of morphological variation is assessed as far as possible. The re-examined material includes samples from the Challenger, Siboga, and Galathea expeditions. Numerous types were re-examined and taxonomic revisions made where necessary. For several nominal species lectotypes are designated. Two new species are described: Antennella kiwiana from New Zealand and Halopteris platygonotheca, a wide spread species from the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Halopteris buskii var. peculiaris (Billard, 1913) is raised to species level as Halopteris peculiaris. Several species are sunk into synonymy: Plumularia balei Billard, 1911...
