Age and growth parameters of Salminus brasiliensis (Curvier, 1816) from the Manso Reservoir and from the river Cuiabá are estimated by their fish scales. Sampling was performed between January and December 2006. There was a linear relationship between the standard length of the fish (cm) and the scale radius (mm) (r = 0.93). The coefficients of variation of standard mean lengths calculated for fish of the same age class were low (>19.0%), while temporal variation analysis of mean marginal increment showed that growth ring was annually formed in November, possibly related to the species’s reproductive period between November and January. ABSTRACT Specimens of Brazilian silverside (Atherinella brasiliensis, n=9672) with a length range of 1.5 to 14.2 cm were captured in the intertidal areas of the Estuarine Complex of Paranaguá, Brazil, between August 2010 and July 2011. The species’ weight-length relationship was represented by the equation W=0.00533 L3.136 with a slightly positive allometry (b>3) and could be divided into two growth stanzas: W = W1 + W2; Stanza 1: W1= SW. Data analyzed included age estimates and biometrics from 60 Amazonian manatees (33 males and 27 females) captured between 1993 and 2006 by local residents of the mid-Solimões and Pirativa Rivers, in Amazonia, and collected by the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Mamirauá and Centro Nacional de Conservação e Manejo de Mamíferos Aquáticos/ICMBio. O estudo do crescimento em largura da carapaça de Chasmagnathus granulatus Dana, 1851 foi baseado em dados de 1940 exemplares coletados na Lagoa do Peixe, Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. As coletas foram realizadas de julho/1994 a junho/1995. Os caranguejos foram coletados manualmente nas margens da lagoa e em laboratório foram separados por sexo e a largura da carapaça mensurada. Total length is ranged from 11 to 44 cm, while total weight varied between 12 and 1040 g. Age estimation was based on otoliths readings. The oldest male and female were estimated to be 9 years old.
