The quantity of micro- and mesozooplankton biomass and distribution of zooplankton by size and trophic groups within the upper 500 m in the Ionian Sea is compared with those in the Sardinian Sea. The quantity of micro- and mesozooplankton in the Sardinian Sea predominates in the zone affected by Atlantic water flow, which results in species variety reduction as compared with the Ionian Sea. There are no significant differences in the zooplankton size and trophic structure of the regions compared.
