The energy balance main elements were studied in mass species of copepods depending on the food kind and temperature. It is shown that most animals of the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean fed on living unicellular algae and phytogenic detritus in comparable amounts. Total diurnal rations decreased from 55.9 to 7.5% with an increase in the energy equivalent of the body mass from 0.062 to 1.5 cal*sample^-1. The value of alga and detritus assimilability was 40-60% on the whole. The relation of the ration and amount of the assimilated food to the copepod body mass for 10-12deg Celcius is described by the equations: C = 0.090*W^0.353, A = 0.040*W^0.383, and for 14-16deg Celcius: C = 0.090*W^0.717, A = 0.026*W^0.419. |

Quantitative changes in the consumption rate and efficiency of assimilating a mixture of food organisms (unicellular algae, phytogenis detritus, Artemia fry) are considered as dependent on the age of Euchaeta marina. The nutrition type in the animal ontogenesis is shown to change from the filtration to predatory one mainly. The assimilation efficiency was determined by the type of the offered food: vegetable food resulted in high and constant values (86.2-94.1%), whereas the animal food increased (from 26.5 to 62.0%) and the detritus decreased them (from 89.2 to 58.1%) from fry to adults. |

Исследованы количественные показатели развития батометрического зоопланктона в период перестройки муссонных течений в северо-западной части Индийского океана. По средним показателям развития микрозоопланктона (2,2.106 экз.м-2 и 2.0 г.м-2) исследуемую акваторию следует отнести к мезотррфным водам. Максимальные его количества были приурочены к областям вихревых циклонических образований, а минимальные — к зонам устойчивого опускания вод. Наибольшие количества организмов обнаружены на глубине 50—75 м над слоем максимальных градиентов плотности. Во всем районе наиболее массовыми из всех рассмотренных групп суммарного зоопланктона являлись ювенальные стадии ракообразных. |

The paper deals with applicability of radioactive phosphorus isotopes to studies in the rate of microplankton (microzoo-, phyto- and bacterioplankton) consumption by zooplankton community under conditions close to in situ in the Atlantic tropical regions, different in productivity. The natural microplankton consumption rate in large crustaceans Undinula vulgaris, Calanus gracilis, Euchaeta marina was 0.1-10.0% of body mass, it is considerably higher (up to 108%) in small Temora stylifera and Clausocalanus furcatus being finer filtrators. Food demands of species zooplanktonic populations can be satisfied at the expense of microplankton only in regions with a comparatively high content of suspended organic matter (10.4-21.0 microg P*l^-1).
