The release of organic compounds in marine organisms (unicellular and multicellular algae, lower animals) is discussed as a part of more complex phenomenon - the exchange between organisms (ecological metabolism). From this point both absolute and relative release rates are of interest. The comparison of relative rates in unicellular algae, multicellular algae, invertebrates and fishes shows the decrease of release intensity in this (evolutionary) series. In multicellular algae the rates of organic matter released are influenced to some extent by environmental conditions and by light intensity especially. On the other side, the release rate is not influenced significantly by the external concentration of organic metabolites. Both these facts support an... |
