| Seasonal and spatial distributions of blowflies in relation to reproduction were investigated by baited traps in eight sites from lowland to high mountainous areas in Hokkaido, Japan. A total of 6,571 blowflies consisting of seven species in three genera was collected. The most predominant species was Calliphora vomitoria (Linnaeus) (5,946 flies, 90.5%), followed by C. nigribarbis Vollenhoven (537 flies, 8.2%). The remaining five species (Triceratopyga calliphoroides Rohdendorf, C. vicina Robineau-Desvoidy, C. loewi Enderlein, C. subalpina (Ringdahl), and Aldrichina grahami (Aldrich) were few in numbers. | Dipterous flies of Brachycera and Cyclorrhapha associated with animal dung and human feces in Japan are reviewed. This paper describes a total of 128 species belonging to 13 families of bred in or attracted to the dung of cows, horses, pigs, chickens, dogs, wild brown bears, and human feces. Information concerning faunal compositions, dung preferences, and larval food habits is provided for each family and species. |

| Molecular analysis based on mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence was performed to elucidate the genetic difference between Haematobia irritans (Linnaeus) and H. exigua (de Meijere), and the phylogenetic relationship among Japanese Stomoxyini species (Stomoxys calcitrans (Linnaeus), S. indicus Picard, S. uruma Shinonaga et Kano, and Haematobosca sanguinolenta (Austen) including Haematobia). Two populations obtained from Obihiro and Morioka which were morphologically identified as H. irritans were genetically identical. Two populations obtained from Taiwan and Vietnam which were morphologically identified as H. exigua were almost genetically identical, but there was a small divergence (0.3-0.4%) between them. | The effects of antiparasitic drug, ivermectin, on the dung-breeding flies were studied in laboratory and field experiments in Hokkaido, Japan. In two pour-on treatments (500μg/kg), ivermectin was excreted in dung for up to 14 and 21 days after treatment, with peaks at 3 days and 1 day, respectively. Dung from treated cattle prevented the larval development of Haematobia irritans and Neomyia cornicina up to 14 days and reduced the larval and pupal survival rates at 21 days after treatment. In the field experiment using emergence traps, the numbers of emerged flies from dung pats were 3,655 (18 families) in control dung and 2,234 (16 families) in treated dung. | Flies occurring from dung of cow, horse and pig were investigated in Hokkaido, Japan. A total of 53 species of the flies belonging to 8 families was reared in two localities; these species were 2 of Stratiomyiidae, 8 of Sepsidae, 11 of Sphaeroceridae, 2 of Scathophagidae, 6 of Anthomyiidae, 22 of Muscidae, and 2 of Sarcophagidae. Numbers of species emerged from droppings of cow, horse and pig were 44, 23, and 23 species, respectively. Cow droppings in Otofuke yielded a large number and a wide variety of species of Anthomyiidae and Muscidae. Information concerning faunal composition in dung and dung preferences for each species is provided. |

| 牛乳頭腫症は，牛パピローマウイルス（BPV: bovine papillomavirus）が牛の体表皮膚や一部の粘膜に感染することによって，感染部位に乳頭腫と呼ばれる良性腫瘍（イボ）を形成する疾患である．本病の発生は全国的に認められるが，わが国の牛の有病率についての大規模な調査は行われていない．本研究では，十勝地方のと畜場において雌雄，月齢および市町村毎の牛乳頭腫症有病率を調査し，疾病発生に関連するリスク要因について考察を行った．平成25年9月末より12月末までの3カ月間，週1回およそ80頭ずつ，合計1,085頭（雌657，雄428頭）の牛について乳頭部を観察し，腫瘍の有無を記録するとともにトレーサビリティーシステムを使って個体識別情報を収集した．陽性個体数は283頭（雌279頭，雄4頭）で，雌および雄の有病率はそれぞれ42.5%，0.9%であった．月齢が上がると有病率も上昇する傾向が観察できた．また，雌の陽性279頭と陰性378頭の月齢平均値を比較したところ，陽性牛の月齢（平均78カ月）が陰性牛のそれ（63カ月）より有意に高かった．有病率が高い市町村では，飼養されている牛の平均年齢も高い傾向がみられた．乳頭腫の発生は性別および年齢と有意に関連があり，雌であり，かつ月齢が高いほど，イボが観察される確率は高かった．一方，地域や季節，飼養管理方法，吸血昆虫の発生などの環境要因と有病率との関連性は明らかになっておらず，今後さらに詳細な調査が必要である．本調査によって，牛乳頭腫症発生の交絡因子として最も大きいのは雌雄の別であり，次に月齢であることがわかった．これらの情報は，牛乳頭腫症の防除対策を行う上で有用と考えられる． |

| Effects of the antiparasitic drug moxidectin were studied in laboratory and field experiments in Hokkaido, Japan by pour-on administrations (500 μg/kg) on a target pest Haematobia irritans Linnaeus, nontarget coprophagous flies represented by Neomyia cornicina (Fabricius), and the dung beetle Caccobius jessoensis Harold. The concentration of moxidectin excreted into cattle dung was maximum at 3 days post-treatment both in the first and second trials, and then it diminished. No moxidectin was detected on or after day 21 post-treatment in the first trial, and on or after day 28 post-treatment in the second trial.
