Temporal variability of atmospheric CO2 of the Spanish Atlantic Coast ArchiMer

The variability of the molar fraction of atmospheric CO2 (xCO(2)(a)) and wind speed and direction were investigated in a coastal embayment located in the west European coast, ria de Vigo, NW Spain, along daily and seasonal time scales. Observations in the ria showed that xCO(2)(a) on a short time scale presented a much wider variability than seawater molar fraction (xCO(2)(w)), in addition, a significant covariation between xCO(2)(a) and wind was found. A sluggish atmospheric renewal due to weak winds was associated with high values of xCO(2)(a), whereas higher oceanic winds renovate the air column with more stable and constrained xCO(2)(a) values (from 350 to 370 ppm). The carbon system is defined by four variables: pH, Total Alkalinity (AT), partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) and Total Inorganic Carbon (CT). The knowledge of two of these variables allows the calculation of the other two by means of a set of equations deduced from thermodynamic equilibrium. During the OVIDE 2004 cruise carried out between 5th June and 6th July on board the RN THALASSA pH and TA measurements were sampled fiom bottle depths at selected stations (Table 1) and analysed on board. Uncoupled transport of chlorofluorocarbons and anthropogenic carbon in the subpolar North Atlantic ArchiMer

Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) 11 and 12 transports across the transoceanic World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) A25 section in the subpolar North Atlantic are derived from an inverse model using hydrographic and ADCP data (Lherminier et al., 2007). CFC and anthropogenic carbon (C-ANT) advective transports contrary to expected are uncoupled: C-ANT is transported northeastwards (82 +/- 39 kmol s(-1)) mainly within the overturning circulation, while CFC-11 and CFC-12 are transported southwestwards (-24 +/- 4 and -11 +/- 2 mol s(-1), respectively) as part of the large-scale horizontal circulation. The Global Ocean Data Analysis Project (GLODAP) is a synthesis effort providing regular compilations of surface to bottom ocean biogeochemical data, with an emphasis on seawater inorganic carbon chemistry and related variables determined through chemical analysis of water samples. This update of GLODAPv2, v2.2019, adds data from 116 cruises to the previous version, extending its coverage in time from 2013 to 2017, while also adding some data from prior years. GLODAPv2.2019 includes measurements from more than 1.1 million water samples from the global oceans collected on 840 cruises.
