| Despite the importance of Oligochaeta to the dynamics of aquatic ecosystems and to studies of the biology of pollution, there is currently a dearth of information on this group's ecology in Brazil. The aim of this study was to describe the Oligochaeta fauna in four watercourses - three urban and one rural - in the state of São Paulo: the Pinheirinho stream, the Água Branca stream, the Monjolinho River and the Gouveia stream, respectively. Sediment samples were taken with a Van Veen grab in two areas from each watercourse, during the summer and winter of 2001. | Abstract Freshwater oligochaetes have been studied over the years in a wide range of habitats around the world. To analyse the data published about freshwater oligochaetes in the 31 year period between 1985 and 2015, we searched for documents in the ISI Web of Science, Scopus and SciELO databases. A total of 979 works were evaluated from 184 periodicals. The United States is the country with the most publications about aquatic oligochaetes, followed by France, Germany and Italy. Works related to the ecology and ecotoxicology of these organisms are most abundant. | The biology of Branchiura sowerbyi Beddard, 1892 has been the focus of many studies in temperate regions, where the species is exotic, according to literature data. Due to its high productivity and easy cultivation, B. sowerbyi is of great interest as a food source for fish farming. The present study reports information on the reproductive biology and growth of B. sowerbyi under laboratory conditions at 25 ± 1ºC. Weekly observations during 52 weeks indicated that the time between cocoon laying and young hatching was 14 to 16 days, the specific daily growth rate was 0.91 ± 0.04% (mean ± SD) and the time to reach sexual maturity was 40.83 ± 6.88 days. | Mosses and liverworts can be colonized by various invertebrates, including fresh water oligochaete worms. However, little information is available on the habits and habitats of this oligochaetes in Brazil. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to examine the occurrence of naidids in mosses, as well as to broaden the knowledge about the habitats of these oligochaetes. | O objetivo desse artigo foi inventariar as espécies de oligoquetos limnícolas que habitam córregos do Parque Estadual de Campos do Jordão (PECJ). As amostras revelaram 2302 indivíduos, distribuídos em três famílias (Naididae, Enchytraeidae, Tubificidae). Foram inventariadas 17 espécies, sendo elas: Achaeta sp., Allonais paraguayensis, Chaetogaster diastrophus, Nais communis, Nais variabilis, Pristina biserrata, Pristina leidyi, Pristina proboscidea, Pristinella jenkinae, Pristinella longidentata, Pristinella minuta, Pristinella notopora, Pristinella osborni, Pristinella sima, Aulodrilus limnobius, Botrioneurum sp. e Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri. | Studies on benthic macroinvertebrates of lotic environments usually focus on the occurrence, distribution, and richness of aquatic insects and decapod crustaceans. Only rarely these studies include the Oligochaeta. The aim of the present study was to examine the occurrence and species richness of Oligochaeta in different substrata patches of lotic environments. The studied included seven stream sites at Parque Estadual Intervales (São Paulo, Brazil). Stream sites differed in size and ranged from first to fourth order. | In the present study we report the occurrence of three Naididae species from three gastropod mollusk species. The species Dero (Dero) righii was found from mollusks of the genus Biomphalaria. Nais communis was found from Biomphalaria sp. and Aplexa rivalis. Chaetogaster limnaei was found from Biomphalaria sp., Aplexa rivalis and Lymnaea columella. In Brazil, previous studies have reported the occurrence of Chaetogaster limnaei from Biomphalaria solely, while Nais communis have been found from Pomacea bridgesii and Dero (Dero) righii in the sediment of aquatic habitats in Mato Grosso do Sul. Our results indicate that, due to their locomotion, naidids are capable of colonizing different substrates in aquatic environments. |
