The Remote Sensing-based Information and Insurance for Crops in Emerging Economics (RIICE) is a project to find ways of helping Asian countries are faced with a natural disaster. Especially floods and droughts caused by the cooperation of the three organizations, namely International Research Institute (IRRI), SARMAP and Rice Department. By the year 2013-2015 in the area of responsibility of Suphan Buri Rice Research Center. Nakhon Ratchasrima Rice Research Center and the objecttive of the project is to reduce vulnerability of smallholders in rice production through better and cheaper information systems on crop growth which will in turn lead to applications such as micro-insurance schemes. On the long run rice production should have increased, thanks to...

Remote Sensing - based Information and Insurance for Crops in Emerging Economics (RIICE) is a collaborative project between 3 organizations: the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), SARMAP and the Rice Department of Thailand. The experiment was conducted during 2013 - 2015 in the areas under responsibility of Suphan Buri Rice Research Center and Nakhon Ratchasrima Rice Research Center. The satellite COSMO Skymed, stripmap type with 3-meter resolution and 40 x 40 kilometer-wide image, was used at Nakhon Ratchasrima, while the satellite COSMO Skymed, scansar type of 15-meter resolution and 100 x 100 kilometer-wide image, was used at Suphan Buri. The different fields survey was conducted to collect geographic coordinates, crop management by farmers,...

By the year 2013 - 2015 in the area of responsibility of Suphanburi Rice Research Center and Nakhon Ratchasrima Rice Research Center. In the year 2013 in Nakhon Ratchasima, using satellite COSMO Skymed, type stripmap, resolution 3-meter, width of the image 40 x 40 kilometers. In Suphanburi, using satellite COSMO Skymed, type scansar resolution of 15 meters, the width of the image 100 x 100 kilometers. In each field survey was conducted, collectting geographic coordinates,...

Two methods of nitrogen management of broadcast wet-seeded rice in SPR1 with Leaf Color Chart (LCC) had been demonstrated compared with farmer fertilizer's practice in 6 farmer fields in Suphan Buri province during dry and wet season, 2003. The results showed that LCC produced yield of 605 and 616 kg/rai whereas farmers’ practice produced only 594 kg/rai and also consumed 28-48% less N fertilizer and gained more yield per nitrogen unit than those of farmers’ practice. Moreover, LCC took only 3.80 baht/kg of total fertilizer input cost and gained 602-614 baht of net benefit whereas the farmers’ practice needed 4.20 baht/kg and gave only 363.50 baht net benefit. Thus, nitrogen management with LCC reduces a lot of input cost and imported urea fertilizer.

Paddy soil in Sing Buri province can be classified into 4 levels as high suitability (soil group 3, 4, 7 and 15), moderately suitability (soil group 21), low suitability (soil group 33) and unsuitability (soil group 38). Moreover, yield production potential of those paddy soils can also be divided into 4 levels as more than 850 kg/rai (R1), 701 - 850 kg/rai (R2), 551 - 700 kg/rai (R3) and less than or equal to 550 kg/rai (R4). Field survey of 547 farmers plantation in Sing Buri province during 2007 - 2009 found that at least five rice varieties, which are PTT1, SPR1, RD31, CNT1 and PSL2 were grown. The common varieties which were PTT1 (90.31%), SPR1 (6.22%) and RD31 (0.91%), respectively were planted by direct seeding method with 25-35 kg/rai seed rate,...
