Medusivorous fishes, a review Naturalis
Ates, R.M.L..
A preliminary review is presented of fish species having consumed pelagic Cnidaria (Scyphozoa and Hydrozoa) as well as Ctenophora. Quantitative data are scarce. Knowledge of morphological and physiological adaptations of fishes foraging on gelatinous plankton is almost non-existent. Many fish species consume medusae and some reasons to suspect that there are even more that do so, are discussed.

A preliminary review of zoanthid-hermit crab symbioses (Cnidaria; Zoantharia/Crustacea, Paguridea) Naturalis
Ates, R.M.L..
A preliminary review is presented of zoanthid-hermit crab symbioses reported in the literature. The records of Balss (1924) are included. Aspects of this type of symbiosis are discussed.

Actiniaria from Ria de Arosa, Galicia, northwestern Spain, in the Netherlands Centre for Biodiversity Naturalis, Leiden Naturalis
Hartog, J.C. den; Ates, R.M.L..
Twentysix species of sea anemones (Actiniaria) collected in Galicia, northwestern Spain are present in the collection of the Netherlands Centre for Biodiversity Naturalis. They are listed and discussed. The cnidom of seventeen species is surveyed. Diadumene cincta is not a recent immigrant in western Europe. Sagartia luciae is (re)assigned to the genus Diadumene. The presence of Sagartia troglodytes in the Mediterranean is doubtful at best.

The occurrence of Sagartia elegans (Dalyell, 1848) (Anthozoa: Actiniaria) in the Netherlands Naturalis
Ates, R.M.L.; Dekker, R.; Faasse, M.A.; Hartog, J.C. den.
The occurrence of the sea anemone Sagartia elegans var. miniata, var. nivea and var. venusta in considerable numbers at three localities in the Netherlands is reported upon. Previous records of the species in Dutch coastal waters are reviewed. Most of these are considered as doubtful. Characters to distinguish S. elegans from S. troglodytes are discussed. Attempts are made to relate local occurrence of S. elegans with temperature data. Sagartia elegans is an autochthonous species in the Netherlands but its numbers vary considerably, and populations probably have no permanent character. In the past, populations presumably have been reduced and sometimes wiped out during relatively severe winters. Reinforcement of rest populations or recolonization is likely...

Observations on the symbiosis between Colus gracilis (Da Costa, 1778) (Mollusca: Gastropoda) and Hormathia digitata (O.F. Müller, 1776) (Cnidaria: Actiniaria) Naturalis
Ates, R.M.L..
Aquarium observations of the behaviour of the actinian Hormathia digitata when mounting live specimens of the gastropod Colus gracilis are fully described for the first time. C. gracilis actively initiates an association with H. digitata by approaching and remaining stationary near the actinian.

On the name of the hermit-crab anemone, Adamsia palliata (O.F. Müller, 1776) Naturalis
Cornelius, P.F.S.; Ates, R.M.L..
The long-used scientific name of the common European sea-enemone Adamsia palliata should be retained in use and an unfamiliar name used in some recent synoptic works should be abandoned. We show this to be so under the Code of Zoological Nomenclature and also on pragmatic grounds.
