Abstract: The objective of this work was to assess the relationship between the depth of irrigation water and larval infestation by Oryzophagus oryzae in flooded rice crop. Water depth and larval infestation were evaluated in the upper levee, in between levees, and in the lower levee. The data were subjected to the descriptive statistical and geostatistical analyses. The highest larval infestation occurs in field areas with greater water depth, which is typical of the lower levee. The spatial distribution of O. oryzae larvae is of the aggregate type and depends on the greater irrigation water depth. Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of fipronil (a.i.) residual content in the soil of flooded rice fields, for the control of Oryzophagus oryzae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in subsequent rice cultivations. In 2010/2011, plots (25x55 m) were installed with three treatments: 30 g fipronil (a.i.) 100 kg-1 seed; mixture of 1/3 treated seed (30 g fipronil 100 kg-1 seed) with 2/3 untreated seed equivalent to 10 g fipronil (a.i.) 100 kg-1 seed; and a control without insecticide application. The plots were regrown in 2011/2012, 2012/2013, and 2013/2014 without any insecticide application. Oryzophagus oryzae é o inseto-praga chave da cultura do arroz irrigado por inundação na Região Sul do Brasil. Suas larvas, conhecidas por bicheira-da-raiz, causam perdas significativas de produtividade quando danificam o sistema radicular das plantas de arroz. No monitoramento da população larval de O. oryzae em arrozais, ou em levantamentos em experimentos, atualmente são empregadas amostras padrão de solo e raízes, com 8,5cm de profundidade e 10cm de largura, desintegradas por submersão e agitamento em peneira com água, para a contagem de larvas. A visualização de larvas, principalmente de 1o e 2o instar, torna-se difícil na suspensão formada pelo solo das amostras com tais dimensões e a água do interior das peneiras.
