| Between latitudes 45°30' (Canso) and 52° (Belle-Isle) is a large depression in which recent glacial modelling left visible marks everywhere, in the runnels of the valley, in the rock bars and frontal moraines, in the deposits of the lateral moraine boulders. These marks sometimes make it difficult to approach the docks in which the small coastal villages used to unload the boats that used to sail back and forth to Quebec City for communication purposes and now transport pulpwood. |

| Dès que l'on commence à étudier les phénomènes océaniques, on est amené à dégager un certain nombre de données fondamentales qui permettent de coordonner les documents recueillis. I.-Les mouvements des grandes masses moléculaires de l'eau de mer sont si lents que les nappes de température et de salinité différentes se comportent pratiquement comme le feraient des liquides non miscibles, de densités différentes. On peut donc distinguer, dans une certaine mesure, la qualité de ces nappes par des caractères propres. II.-La proportion des sels dissous dans l'eau de mer est sensiblement constante quelle que soit la salinité totale, c'est-à-dire le poids de sels contenu dans 1 kilogramme d'eau. | We are currently witnessing, on the deposits, the same evolution towards an increase in the tonnage as we already witnessed in the past with sailing ships. The first steam fishing boat launched in 1872 in Boulogne, the Stuart, was 19.23 m long. Its financial failure stopped for a few years the adoption of steam trawlers in England, Germany and France. | To begin with, it seems necessary to recall the reason why we tried to find new fishing areas in Greenland after the failure of three French trawlers in 1925, and with in mind the quasi-certainty of finding a satisfactory compensation for the lack of fishes on the Newfoundland Bank in the summer. 1927 had been the first year of shortage observed since 1922, date of the first oceanographic studies conducted by the Fisheries Office in Newfoundland. | Jadis Buchanan avait posé en principe que la cause initiale de la circulation océanique est la chaleur solaire et que le régime des vents n'intervient que comme cause secondaire. Le vent lui-même est causé par les variations de la chaleur solaire qui agit différemment sur des masses d'air contiguës de nature différente au point de vue température et hygrométrie, en provoquant des dilatations différentes et par suite des modifications d'équilibre.
