We have been instructed to continue in May-June-July 1926, on board the tuna boat Hébé, our research on the biology of the albacore, and to monitor some drift-net fishing trials. The explored area was the Bay of Biscay, off-shore Spain and Portugal, the Madeira and Canaries area. In the southern part of this area, the albacore cruises between 200 and 300 metres deep at this time of the year: we did not attempt at net-fishing there. Our trials were conducted 120 miles west of the Berlingues and 180 miles west of the Cap Finisterre. |

During our studies on the biology of the sardine from the French Atlantic coast, over the 1929 fishery, we noticed some specificities in this fish's sexuality. In particular, we observed some differences between the male and female individuals from each of the studied batches. These differences are of the same order and show a constant character. Some sexual dimorphism facts tally with the fragmentary observations of L. Fage on the sardines from the entire French coast, Arné on the individuals caught South of the Gironde, and Le Gall on the celans from the English Channel. The observations we made can be used as a basis for a global study on the sexuality and the dimorphism in the sardine. |

Towards the end of the sardine campaign, when the coastal sardines disappear, the Vendée and Charente fishermen cruise towards the open ocean in search of new shoals, and this search leads them to the surroundings of the Rochebonne shelf. The Rochebonne shelf is located about 37 miles west of the Isle of Ré and 31 miles south of the Isle of Yeu. Sardines can be very numerous in these waters and especially in the area located East and North-East of the shelf. |
