Notes are given on the taxonomy, reproductive biology, ecology and ectoparasites of 20 species of - mostly recently collected - Megachiroptera from Sulawesi, Indonesia. The occurrence of one species on Sulawesi is considered doubtful and a further three species are deleted from the Sulawesian faunal list. A key based on externally visible characters and a gazetteer of the collecting localities of Sulawesian bats are appended.

The approximate limits of the region of sympatric occurrence of the West African fruit bats Epomops franqueti (Tomes, 1860) and Epomops buettikoferi (Matschie, 1899) are discussed. Series of the two species from that region are compared and a key is given to identify adult specimens. Notes are added on the distribution, ecology and biology of E. buettikoferi.

Spinturnicid mites from some Nigerian bats (Acarina, Spinturnicidae)

Five species of mites belonging to three genera of the family Spinturnioidae are reported from six species of bats in Nigeria. The species are Meristaspis kenyaensis (Radford), Ancystropus aethiopicus Hirst, Spinturnix walkerae Zumpt & Till, S. scotophili repens ssp.n., and S. intectus sp.n. Male and female specimens of the two new taxa are fully described and figured. Zoogeographical and taxonomical implications of the results of this study are discussed.

A record from Surinam of the bat Chiroderma trinitatum Goodwin, 1958 (Mammalia, Chiroptera)

Re-examination of a collection of bats from Surinam in the Zoölogisch Museum, Amsterdam, uncovered a specimen representing the Phyllostomatid bat Chiroderma trinitatum Goodwin, 1958. This species does not appear in the monograph of the Chiroptera of Surinam by Husson (1962), nor in his more recent works on the mammals of that country (1973; 1978). The present specimen therefore seems to be the first record from Surinam. It is a young adult female, captured after it had flown into a house at night on 1-II-1967, by H. The fruit bat genus Myonycteris Matschie, 1899, is considered to contain only two valid taxa: the species M. torquata (Dobson, 1878) inhabiting the forest blocks in West Africa and Central Africa, and M. brachycephala (Bocage, 1889) from the island of São Tomé. M. wroughtoni Andersen, 1908, and M. leptodon Andersen, 1908, are considered synonyms of M. torquata. Myonycteris relicta n. sp. is described from the Shimba Hills in southeast Kenya and from the Usambara Mountains in northeast Tanzania. Rousettus amplexicaudatus (Geoffroy, 1810) is divided into three subspecies according to size: R. a. amplexicaudatus, R. a. infumatus (Gray, 1870), and R. a. brachyotis (Dobson, 1877). Cynonycteris minor Dobsou, 1873 is synonymized with R. a. infumatus; Rousettus stresemanni Stein, 1933 with R. a. amplexicaudatus; and Rousettus amplexicaudatus hedigeri Pohle, 1952 with R. a. brachyotis.
