Catalogue of the Pyrrhocoridae in 's Rijks Museum van Natuurlijke Historie Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
The family of the Pyrrhocoridæ is rather well represented in the collections of the Leyden Museum, so that it seems me to be of use to publish a catalogue of the specimen after having identified them. The specimen in the collection of the Leyden Museum are of very different origin, as it will be shown in the following catalogue. Of course the Malayan archipelago is the best represented region, and in many cases the list of localities in this paper will throw quite a better light upon the geographical distribution of several species. Besides there were twelve new species from the Netherlands east Indies in the collection, that is about l/6 of the species already described from this region. During the last year the Museum obtained a notable number of partly...

Catalogue of the Aradidae in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
The group of the Aradidae was largely made accessible by the excellent work of R. L. Usinger & R. Matsuda (Classification of the Aradidae, London 1959). It gave me the possibility of revising the collection of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, from which already some species had been described by C. J. Drake and R. L. Usinger before. As a consequence of their ecology, the collecting of Aradidae is not very easy. The work done by the numerous collectors for our museum resulted in a medium-sized collection from a restricted number of localities, as in some cases the number of individuals in one capture is very high, and for the rest the captures are incidental only. A single remark may be made regarding the drawings in this paper. Many specimens...

On some Lygaeidae of the genus Astacops and allies Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
In "Pacific Insects" vol. 5, no. 2 (1963), G. C. E. Scudder published a "Revision of the Genus Astacops sensu lat.". It is an important contribution to the knowledge of this group, the paper containing a.o. the descriptions of no less then 66 new species and subspecies, for the greater part from the Australo-malayan region. Though I highly appreciate this work in general, and the clear way in which the differences between forms are exposed, I must lodge an objection as to the way the analysis of the genera is exposed. In Scudder's "Key to genera in the Astacops complex" hardly any of the characters used by the authors of the genera is mentioned; most characters are invented by Scudder. I don't think this to be a useful manner. Of course it can be of...

Two new species of Pyrrhocoridae in 's Rijks Museum van Natuurlijke Historie Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
Euscopus chinensis n. sp. In the collection of the Leyden Museum I found a specimen of Euscopus, of which the identity was hitherto not clear to me; but as it was a single female I was not able to made a description of it. Between the specimen of the British Museum, my colleague Mr CHINA was so kind to send to me, I found two males and one female, of which I am sure they are belonging to the same species. The species is rather closely allied to E. rufipes Stål and (still more) to E. vittiventris Walk, having the black colour markings as in the second species, but the ground colour of the hemielytra and the basal fascia to the pronotum are red, not yellow. The red longitudinal fascia to the venter is in some of the specimen indicated, but not always...

Catalogue of the Berytidae, Piesmidae and Tingidae in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
The collection of Berytidae, Piesmidae, and Tingidae in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie is not of the same degree of completeness as that of most of the other families of bugs. Exotic insects of small size have often been neglected by our collectors, and it seems, moreover, that the Tingidae are not very abundant in the tropical regions. Because of lack of material for comparison I have abandoned the description of the few American and African species that are possibly new to science. Only the descriptions of new species from the Indian Archipelago are given below. BERYTIDAE — BERYTINAE Neides aduncus Fieb. I. Southern France, Duda. — 2. Rio Salato, Oran, 1895, Dr. Schmiedeknecht. — 3. Corfu, 1889, Schmiedeknecht. — 4. Tunis, 1898, Dr....

On the systematic position of Scotomedes (Heteroptera, Nabidae) Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
In the collection of the Leiden Museum there is preserved the holotype of Scotomedes ater Stål. I was much surprised to discover that Velocipeda biguttula Reut. is a synonym of it. Distant described another Scotomedes-species in his "Fauna of British India" under the name: Godefridus alienus, bringing it to the Reduviidae, subfam. Apiomerinae. This was a reason for derision by Reuter, who cited it as an instance of Distant's less trustworthy scientific performances (Reuter, 1905). However, though it seems to have been "bon ton" to ridiculize Distant's views, we are not accustomed to neglect Stål's, and I was much interested to know why Stål had placed Scotomedes without hesitation into the Nabidae, as other authors have been of a so much different opinion....

The genus Baeturia Stål as represented in New Guinea (Homoptera, Cicadidae) Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
Until now only three species of the genus Baeturia have been recorded from New Guinea, viz., B. bicolorata Distant, B. viridicata Distant, and B. nana Jacobi. As I had the opportunity to study a fairly large collection of this group from different sources, collected in New Guinea, it appeared to me that this country lodges quite a number of Baeturia species, of which the present paper gives a the first account. I am sure, however, that a large number of species is not yet known to me, the more so as I left a number of species, of which my material was not sufficient, still undescribed. As concerns the genus Baeturia itself, it seems not improbable that in future we are to divide it into two or more genera. As in my opinion, this only is to be done when...

Catalogue of the Coreidae in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie : Part I. Corizinae, Alydinae Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
As a result of my further work on the reordening of the collection of bugs in the Leiden Museum I am giving now a catalogue of the Coreidae in the Museum, which will appear in some parts, as the group is rather large. Again I was enabled to visit the British Museum (Natural History), and I will include in the present paper some remarks upon species of which types are in this Museum. Of course it was of great importance for the identification of our specimens too, that I could compare the doubtful things with the rich collection in this Museum. I am very thankful to Mr. China again for his kind assistance. Some years ago (in 1928) the Leiden Museum acquired the extensive collection of bugs of Mr. A. J. P. Fokker. This collection has to be kept separately...

On some Oncomerini from New Guinea (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae) Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
In the course of the later years a rather large number of specimens of various groups of insects from New Guinea were among the acquisitions of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie. Shortly after the war the collections made by Professor H. Boschma, during his visit to the Wissel Lakes in 1939 as the zoologist of the expedition organized by the Royal Netherlands Geographical Society (Koninklijk Nederlandsch Aardrijkskundig Genootschap), arrived safely from Bogor (Java) where they had to stay during the German occupation of the Netherlands. Quite recently we obtained the first captures made by Dr. L. D. Brongersma in various places in and near New Guinea. From both collections a number of new and interesting Heteroptera is to be described. A few...

Thamnotettix erythrostictus (Leth.). De door FOKKER vermelde...

A new cotton-stainer (Heteroptera, Pyrrhocoridae) Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
Dysdercus mendesi nov. spec. Dysdercus spp. 1936, Mendes, L.O.T., Boletim Technico N. 23, Institute Agronomico de Campinas, II, Os "Manchadores" do Algodao, p. 4 pl. I—II. This species is rather similar to D. columbicus m. and to D. brevis m.; the whitish annulation to the ultimate antennal joint is usually indistinct, the pronotum shows no black transverse stripe behind. The third joint of the tarsi, however, is not lighter than the second, the general form is more elongate, the pronotum less broad, the antennae are slightly longer and the membrane is darker, especially at the base. The structure of the male genital segment differs from that of D. columbicus in showing a less pronounced inflexion in the apical edge, the protuberant parts less angular, the...
