Factors affecting the development of the organic seed sector Organic Eprints
Borgen, A.; Gustavsson, A.-M. D.; Kieksi, J.; Johnsen, T.; Andersson, R.; Eriksen, R..
Introduction Huge differences are seen in the use of organic seed in different countries. In some countries, the majority of organic farmers uses organic seed of the dominating crops, while organic farmers in other countries predominately uses conventional seed. The IFOAM basic standards, the EU-regulation (Council regulation (EEC) No 2092/91), and standards in most countries worldwide request organic seed to be used if such seed is available. If not, the competent authority can accept the farmer to use conventional seed. Before 2004, the EU regulation on organic agriculture will be revised. The current analysis is conducted as a background paper for this revision. Description and approach A comparative study in the Nordic countries shows that the...

COBRA: a new European research project for organic plant breeding Organic Eprints
Pedersen, T.M.; Döring, T.F.; Baresel, P.; Borgen, A.; Finckh, M.R.; Howlett, S.A.; Ortolani, L.; Pearce, B.D.; Wolfe, M.S..
Development of organic plant breeding and seed production will have a valuable impact on organic plant production. Breeding of plant material adapted for organic agriculture is crucial in order to cope with stresses such as climate change, weeds and seed borne diseases. Conventional varieties may not meet the specific needs of organic agriculture. The use of plant material adapted to conditions of organic agriculture will have a positive effect on the productivity and sustainability of organic crop production.

Udsædsbårne sygdomme i økologisk såsæd - betydning og skadetærskler Organic Eprints
Nielsen, B.J.; Nielsen, G.C.; Pinnschmidt, H.; Wolffhechel, H.; Justesen, A.F.; Hansen, H.J.; Borgen, A.; Bødker, L.; Kristensen, E.F..
