Values Based Supply Chains as a Tool for Territorial Development Organic Eprints
Stotten, Rike; Schermer, Markus; Pugliese, Patrizia; Lamine, Claire; Bui, Sibylle.
Recently established organic regions aim to be model regions of sustainability. This paper focuses on the role and configurations of values based supply chains for the territorial development of organic regions. Three different case studies of organic regions in Italy, France and Austria are investi-gated. Principles of organic farming according to the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement and the concept of neo-endogenous development by Christopher Ray serve as frame-work for analyzes. Finally, we include values-based supply chains into the model of neo-endogenous development: first to link values on a territorial level and second as a tool to imple-ment them.

Organic farming as a factor for territorial development: a comparative perspective Organic Eprints
Schermer, Markus; Lamine, Claire; Pugliese, Patrizia; Furtschegger, Christoph; Bui, Sibylle.
In various European countries, organic farming acts as a driving factor for territorial development, forming initia-tives like the Biovallée in France, Biodistretti in Italy or Bioregionen in Austria. These initiatives aspire to create ‘model regions’ for sustainable development not only in agriculture, but in a wider perspective. While the overall objective is similar for all approaches, the outcomes differ as our analysis of three European territories shows.

Full case study report: Biovallée - France Organic Eprints
Bui, Sibylle; Lamine, Claire.
The Drôme valley is the most developed area in France with respect to organic agriculture. In this small region (2200 km², 54000 inhabitants), organic production represents 30% of agricultural land, high above the national average of 3%. A public project was launched in 2009 by the 102 municipalities of the valley: the Biovallée project (www.biovallee.fr). The Biovallée project aims at making the Drôme valley a pilot territory in terms of sustainable development. Therefore it includes operational objectives for 2020 in a diversity of sectors, among which energy (coverage of 100% of household consumption with renewable energies), waste (a 50% reduction), land use (no more destruction of arable land), housing (building 5 eco-neighbourhoods), education and...

Maintien des valeurs dans la croissance de la bio. Enseignements du projet HealthyGrowth Organic Eprints
Lamine, Claire; Egon, N; Bui, Sibylle.
How do organic initiatives and food chains succeed in maintaining their foundational values along and despite their growth process? This question which appears central in the “conventionnalisation debate” has been tackled by the European project HealthyGrowth (2013-2016, Eranet Core Organic program). In this project, 11 teams from different countries developed and applied to 22 case studies, 5 different perspectives dealing with organization modes and governance, management strategies, communication of values, mediation of values, and resilience in a context of crises and changes. The cross analysis of these case studies, carried out through a multi-perspective approach, made it possible to identify 3 important aspects which allow maintaining values along...

Healthy Growth : Biovallée Case Study Report Organic Eprints
Lamine, Claire; Bui, Sibylle.
Biovallée is one of the three territorial case studies of HealthyGrowth, along with the Biodistretto Cilento (It) and the Bioregion Mühlviertel (Au). Territorial case studies are not focused on a single chain but on a whole territorial agrifood system. This allows to analyse more deeply the modes of coordination between various actors and institutions (public and private), the management and governance models and the ways these contribute to maintain the ’added value’. As they differ from the value-chain focus of the other case studies of the HealthyGrowth project, territorial case studies imply some changes and adaptations in the template, some dimensions being irrelevant in our case.

Healthy-growth WP2 - Organic values-based food chains in France. State of the art review Organic Eprints
Lamine, Claire; Bui, Sibylle; Cardona, Aurélie.
This report presents the situation of the French organic sector and offers a state of the art of the case studies that are available about values-based food chains. It shows that despite they describe very different initiatives and chains, most studies refer to the structural crisis of the conventional sector and to the risk of “conventionalisation”, thus making issues of governance and decision making (as well as their evolution over time) of major importance.

Pour une approche systémique et pragmatique de la transition écologique des systèmes agri-alimentaires. Organic Eprints
Lamine, Claire; Bui, Sibylle; Ollivier, Guillaume.
Starting with a discussion of three theoretical frameworks which can be applied in order to analyse agrifood systems transformation processes, i.e., the sustainability transitions theory, the French pragmatic sociology, and the food regimes theory, this article suggests a systemic, historicized and pragmatic approach to ecologization processes which borrows from these different frameworks. This approach adopts a systemic and historical standpoint as it aims to study how these transition processes result from the transformation of the interdependences between the different components and actors of the agrifood systems over time. It is also a pragmatic approach because it focusses on the actual changes in actors’ practices as well as on the controversies...
