Is the genetic integrity of natural plant populations ex situ preserved with the current sampling, conservation and regeneration approaches? JBAG
Camadro,E.L.
Acceleration of environment degradation and climate change poses serious threats to both natural and agricultural ecosystems. In fact, the number of endangered plant species at the global level has increased yearly in the last decades, due to anthropic interventions that sum up to the climate change. Samples of natural plant populations, particularly of wild crop relatives, are ex situ conserved in germplasm banks, which have become active in the provision of genetic resources to breeders. The aim of this article is to generate discussion on the adequacy of (a) current protocols for sampling and ex situ conservation of the natural genetic diversity and (b) the actual species paradigm in plants, due to their consequences for this and future generations.

Pollen viability and meiotic irregularities in a collection of Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni cultivated in Tucumán, Argentina JBAG
Budeguer,C.J; Camadro,E.L; Erazzú,L.E.
Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni (2n=2x=22) (Asteraceae family) is a species of economic value due to the presence of steviol glycosides in leaves -mainly stevioside and rebaudioside A- which are non-caloric sugars. In 2013, a collection of plants (genotypes) from four contrasting environments was established in Tucuman, Argentina, for evaluation under local conditions and, eventually, breeding purposes. As a first step, pollen viability and meiosis was studied in a sample of 56 plants. The percentage of pollen viability varied from medium (69.4%) to high (99.6%) in 52 of them, but from low (36.5%) to relatively low (51.5%) in the remaining four. The latter four plants also presented pollen grains of heterogeneous size, which were classified as n...

In vivo self-incompatibility response in the wild potato Solanum chacoense bitter JBAG
Capurro,M.A; Medina Piles,V; Camadro,E.L.
In tuber-bearing Solanum species (potatoes), S-locus mediated self-incompatibility is under gametophytic control. In this system, self-fertilization is avoided when the same S-allele is expressed in both pistil and pollen. Because the ultrastructural details of the self-incompatibility response in this group of species is unknown, the aim of this study was to identify the cellular events involved in this response by using the diploid species S. chacoense Bitter as a model. To this end, pollinations were carried out in two genotypic combinations previously identified as (1) compatible and (2) self-incompatible (self-pollination) for the S-locus. Pollinated pistils were fixed on an hourly basis and observed under a transmission electron microscope to detect...

Identificación de hidrófitas dulceacuícolas para estudios de genotoxicidad de contaminantes acuáticos JBAG
Menone,M.L; Pérez,D.J; Lukaszewicz,G; Camadro,E.L.
