Awareness of e-learning resources in contrast to actual usage at Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine OAK
Campbell, David; KUBOTA, Miyuki; キャンベル, ディビッド; 久保田, 美由紀.
In 2001, e-learning, as a part of the government’s e-Japan initiative, began to be introduced in universities throughout Japan. Now almost ten years later it is necessary to evaluate how successful this strategy has been by looking at the awareness and usage of e-learning at one small agriculture university. An activity using the Moodle database module in a blended learning environment to practice all four English skills with Japanese university students OAK
Campbell, David; キャンベル, ディビッド.
In this paper I will share a simple four skills activity that can be set up in the Moodle database module that “kills many birds with one stone.” In many activities in the foreign language classroom there are logistical problems that need to be overcome when an instructor wishes to do communicative activities. If you want people to have multiple partners, again there is the problem of moving students around and the delays involved in the process. If the activity is paper based then there is the problem of collecting and redistributing the paper. If the instructor wants to get an idea of the students’ output, there is the...

Role of English in building a stronger school - wide academic program OAK
Smith, Marshall; Hill, Glen; Campbell, David; Tokioka, Hirozumi; スミス, マーシャル; ヒル, グレン; キャンベル, ディビッド; 時岡, 裕純.
In academics, English is traditionally viewed as an independent department functioning on its own with little, if any, cooperation or interest coming from non-English-related students and staff of an institution. But with the changing times and increasingly competitive environment that have quite dramatically impacted education in Japan, it may be time to more seriously consider some options for making one’s English program more viable, and even indispensable, to the overall success of a school. Available options include English resource center, language support for research in other departments, networking with other departments, creating more opportunities for improvement of English skills among students and staff, promoting a...
