The water repartition in the Arcachon Basin is as follows: 1) Exterior neritic water, purely marine (the inlet area); 2) Interior neritic water (bottom of the basin); 3) Middle neritic water found between the two above mentioned types of water (central part of the basin). Analyses carried out since 1972 show an increase of average trace metal contents (Zn = 100%, Cu = 400%, Pb = 400%) and of organic particulate carbon. The Lagoon center, poor in metal content, is considered as a geochemical baseline of the basin. Since 1977, this baseline has been showing an increase of metallic elements. These concentrations, however, may be easily compared to the average metal content, noted for the same type of sediments. Inversely, the decrease of metal contents in the... |

This study of Oualidia Lagoon distinguishes two domains: a domain under an essentially marine influence, characterized by a sandy facies, poor in heavy metals and organic matter but rich in strontium and biogenic carbonates. These sediments are azoic and undergo a thanatocoenose transport; a portion under a typically lagoon influence characterized by silty-muddy to silty facies with important concentrations of organic matter and metallic elements, but poor in strontium and carbonate quantities. Microfauna is a lagoon-like, well diversified and abundant, biocoenosis, eurythermic and euryhaline. It is clear that the environment is more open to marine influence. |
