Yield prediction of experimental plots based on the harvest of specific fruit clusters for selection of fresh market tomato hybrids Horticultura Brasileira
Silva,Paulo TP; Oliveira,Gustavo E; Peloia,Paulo R; Carvalho,Regis C; Gonçalves,Flávia Maria A.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to propose models based on the harvest of specific fruit clusters to estimate the plot yield of trials containing fresh market tomato hybrids. Three experiments were conducted at the Experimental Station of Syngenta Crop Protection in the municipality of Holambra, state of São Paulo, Brazil, in 2016 and 2017. The experimental design was randomized complete blocks with 12 genotypes (experiments 1 and 3) and 13 genotypes (experiment 2), with 4 replicates and 10 plants per plot. Multiple linear regression models were fitted (stepwise method) with experiment 1 data (cross-validation), the best models were selected (higher adjusted R²) and then tested with experiments 2 and 3 data by mean of absolute percentage error...

Assessment of resistances to multiple pathogens in experimental sweet pepper hybrids Horticultura Brasileira
Carvalho,Regis C; Nogueira,Douglas W; Ticona-Benavente,César A; Nogueira,Danilo G; Maluf,Wilson R; Gonçalves,Ranoel JS; Silva,Luis FL.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to assess resistance to some of the major sweet pepper pathogens {Phytophthora capsici, Pepper yellow mosaic virus (PepYMV) and Meloidogyne incognita} in a group of experimental hybrids and their respective parental lines, and to identify hybrids possibly resistant to all three pathogens. Ten parental breeding lines, thirty experimental hybrids and seven commercial controls (Konan-R, Magali-R, Martha-R, Stephany, Mallorca, Magnata Super and Criollo de Morelos-334) were used. Each experiment was set up in a randomized complete block design with three replications and plots consisting of 16 plants. For assessment of resistance to P. capsici and PepYMV, the percent of asymptomatic plants was considered. In evaluating...

General and specific combining ability in tropical winter cauliflower Horticultura Brasileira
Arashida,Felipe M; Maluf,Wilson R; Carvalho,Regis C.
ABSTRACT Few Brazilian cauliflower cultivars have shown to be adapted to tropical winter conditions. In addition, studies to obtain hybrids adapted to our winter conditions, from breeding lines originating from tropical regions, are scarce. The objective of this work was to estimate the combining ability of cauliflower breeding lines. The experiment comprised 38 genotypes, 36 hybrids from a partial diallel cross obtained by crosses between two groups of cauliflower lines: Group I (3 parents) and Group II (12 parents) and 2 commercial controls. We evaluated plant cycle, resistance to diseases, average curd mass, curd color, hollow stalk incidence, and overall evaluation. Additive genetic effects were more important than non-additive effects in the...
