Managing Flounder Openings for Maximum Revenue AgEcon
Chen, Wei; Kauffman, Dan; Taylor, Daniel B.; Peterson, Everett B..
Every year, the federal government regulates how many pounds of summer flounder (while these fish are called summer flounder, they are caught throughout the year) can be caught along the eastern seaboard. Annually, the federal government sets the total allowable landings (TAL) based on biological considerations and the each state gets a percentage of the TAL as a quota. The percentage of TAL each state receives is based on historical landings. Each state can then allocate its quota among the months. The purpose of this paper is to establish an optimization model to maximize the annual revenue from catching summer flounder by allocating their annual quota among twelve months. The first stage of this research is to specify and estimate a model to...

Impacts of China's Food Consumption on U.S. Soybean Exports AgEcon
Chen, Wei; Marchant, Mary A.; Song, Baohui.
A model examines how the international and China’s market prices impact China’s soybean imports from the U.S. and South America. Based on soybean crushing ratios and a market clearing presumption, an equation of China’s soybean oil import prices is designed to achieve the goal.

Construction of Evaluation System of Provincial Ecological Civilization - A Case of Shangong Province, China AgEcon
Liu, Yanjun; Zhang, Baohua; Cao, Jianrong; Chen, Wei.
According to the connotation of ecological civilization, construction principle of ecological civilization index system is expatiated, including integrity principle, applicability and feasibility principle, quantification principle and purposefulness principle. Based on this, a total of 23 single factors are selected from four aspects of ecological environmental protection, economic development, social progress and environmental protection consciousness. Ecological civilization index system is constructed. Weight of single factor is determined by using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and comprehensive evaluation model is established. Taking Shandong Province as an example, optimized index system and comprehensive evaluation model are used to analyze the...

China’s Soybean Imports — Price Impacts using a Production System Approach AgEcon
Chen, Wei; Marchant, Mary A.; Muhammad, Andrew.
A differential production model is applied to study how soybean and soybean oil imports from the U.S., Brazil and Argentina compete on China’s markets and how China’s domestic prices of soybean meal and oil impact the country’s imports. The results support a presumption that China’s soybean imports from global markets are impacted by China’s domestic soybean meal price but not by the soybean oil price.
