Lumbriclymene interstricta comb. nov. with a taxonomic key and a catalogue for all species of Lumbriclymene (Maldanidae, Polychaeta) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Assis,José Eriberto de; Christoffersen,Martin Lindsey.
In this paper, we transfer Nicomache interstricta Ehlers, 1908 to Lumbriclymene Sars, 1872 based on a redescription of the type-specimen. We provide new illustrations for the species and new diagnostic features for the genus. Lumbriclymene interstricta (Ehlers, 1908) comb. nov. has 19 chaetigerous segments and four pre-anal achaetous segments; a prostomium rounded anteriorly, forming a slightly arched dorsal keel; semi-circular nuchal grooves; one acicular spine on chaetigers 1-4; and a small pygidium, with the anal pore bearing many small papillae. In addition, we compare the species with other subfamilies and genera of Maldanidae. We also provide a taxonomic key for all species presently included in Lumbriclymene. Finally, we provide a world catalogue...

Polychaeta, Annelida, and Articulata are not monophyletic: articulating the Metameria (Metazoa, Coelomata) Zoologia
Almeida,Waltécio de Oliveira; Christoffersen,Martin Lindsey; Amorim,Dalton de Souza; Garraffoni,André Rinaldo Senna; Silva,Gustavo Sene.
Polychaetes are metameric worms recognized for having parapodia, chaetae, and nuchal organs. Some authors have extended the Annelida to include Pogonophora, Echiura, and Clitellata. These suggestions are insufficient to generate a monophyletic group. They do not take into account two very large and important clades that in a cladistic analysis at a higher level are shown to be nested within the Annelida: the Ecdysozoa (arthropods and related taxa) and Enterocoela (deuterostomes and related taxa). Evolutionary histories of most characters across metazoan phyla are still very poorly known. Metameres and coeloms have been considered homoplastic in the literature, and yet the homeobox genes responsible for the expression of metamerism and of paired appendages,...

Macrofauna bêntica do Parque Estadual Marinho de Areia Vermelha, Cabedelo, Paraíba, Brasil Biota Neotropica
Gondim,Anne Isabelley; Dias,Thelma Lúcia Pereira; Campos,Felipe Ferreira; Alonso,Carmen; Christoffersen,Martin Lindsey.

Inventory of mollusks from the estuary of the Paraíba River in northeastern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Lima,Silvio Felipe Barbosa; Lucena,Rudá Amorim; Santos,Galdênia Menezes; Souza,José Weverton; Christoffersen,Martin Lindsey; Guimarães,Carmen Regina; Oliveira,Geraldo Semer.
Abstract: Coastal ecosystems of northeastern Brazil have important biodiversity with regard to marine mollusks, which are insufficiently studied. Here we provide an inventory of mollusks from two sites in the estuary of the Paraíba River. Mollusks were collected in 2014 and 2016 on the coast and sandbanks located on the properties of Treze de Maio and Costinha de Santo Antônio. The malacofaunal survey identified 12 families, 20 genera and 21 species of bivalves, 17 families, 19 genera and 20 species of gastropods and one species of cephalopod. Bivalves of the family Veneridae Rafinesque, 1815 were the most representative, with a total of five species. Gastropods of the family Littorinidae Children, 1834 had the greatest species richness. The most abundant...

Echinodermata associated to rhodoliths from Seixas Beach, State of Paraíba, Northeast Brazil Biota Neotropica
Prata,Jessica; Costa,Dimitri Araujo; Manso,Cynthia Lara de Castro; Crispim,Maria Cristina; Christoffersen,Martin Lindsey.
Abstract This study presents the species of echinoderms found inside rhodolith branches from Seixas Beach, State of Paraíba, Brazil, during one year of rhodolith sampling. A total of 64 specimens were analyzed and identified into 12 species, belonging to 11 genera, eight families and three classes. Brief taxonomic descriptions, figures and ecological notes for recorded species are provided. Ophiuroidea and Holothuroidea were the most representative taxa. Biogenic structures are an important habitat for young specimens and some small species of Echinodermata. Some species complete their life cycle in these structures, while others spend part of their life in these substrates and may also migrate to other habitats. The work complements the knowledge of...

Bycatch fauna of seabob shrimp trawl fisheries from Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Branco,Joaquim Olinto; Freitas Júnior,Felipe; Christoffersen,Martin Lindsey.
Marine communities in tropical regions contain a great diversity of species that play key roles in ecological processes. The observed bycatch fauna in artisanal fishing for the seabob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri (Heller, 1862) in the southwest Atlantic exceeds the quantity of commercial shrimp captured. This bycatch has not been previously inventoried extensively in Brazil, particularly in the State of Santa Catarina, where small-scale shrimp fisheries is a traditional activity and dominates the local fishing economy. Six municipalities were sampled three times a month, from 1996 to 2011, yielding 216 species belonging to the bycatch (7 cnidarians, 22 mollusks, 42 crustaceans, 11 echinoderms, and 134 fishes). Bycatch management is a pressing aspect of...
