Distinctness, uniformity and stability and GT biplot tests for the selection of snap bean lines Horticultura Brasileira
Sant’Anna,Camila QSS de; Oliveira,Tâmara Rebecca A de; Gravina,Geraldo de A; Cruz,Derivaldo P da; Gomes,Andrea BS; Daher,Rogério F; Vivas,Marcelo; Oliveira,Gustavo Hugo F de; Entringer,Geovana C; Coelho,Fábio C.
ABSTRACT The lack of records about snap bean cultivars is one of the obstacles that has led to a yield gap and low prominence of the crop. This work aimed at indicating snap bean lines obtained by the Breeding Program of the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense (UENF) to assess their performance and to apply for a certificate of plant variety protection. The study was managed using a randomized block design with three replicates in a greenhouse at the Research Support Unit of the UENF. Nine candidate lines were compared to the commercial cultivar “Topseed Blue Line” in accordance with 56 descriptors set by the National Plant Variety Rights. All lines presented themselves as homogeneous. The L31 line provided a total of 30 different descriptors of the...

Biometric analysis in maize genotypes suitable for baby corn production in organic farming system Horticultura Brasileira
Nascimento,Maxwel R; Santos,Paulo Ricardo; Coelho,Fábio C; Jaeggi,Mário Euclides PC; Costa,Kleyton Danilo S; Souza,Maurício N.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to estimate and quantify the degree of association between phytotechnical variables for simultaneous selection of maize genotypes suitable to produce baby corn. Seven genotypes were arranged in field in randomized complete block design with four replicates. Genetic parameters, simple, path and canonical correlations of phytotechnical variables were estimated. The variables production of marketable spikes, length of marketable spikes, final plant stand and plant height showed over 80% heritability and variation index higher than the unity, indicating that superior genotypes can be obtained and selection gains. Significant phenotypic and genotypic correlations were observed for production of marketable spikes, positive and...

Performance of maize seedlings for baby corn production Horticultura Brasileira
Costa,Ariane C; Coelho,Fábio C; Garcia,Romário V; Lima,Wallace Luís de; Vivas,Marcelo; Prins,Cláudia L; Rocha,Jaídson G da.
ABSTRACT Using maize seedlings for baby corn production can benefit farmers who have small areas under cultivation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the possibility of using maize seedlings for the production of baby corn. The experiment was carried out in field with four treatments (direct sowing in field; transplanting seedlings 10 days after sowing (DAS); 20 DAS and 30 DAS) in randomized blocks with eight replications. Plants from seedlings 30 DAS were higher than sowing direct in field. Direct sowing in field and seedlings 30 DAS resulted in the largest stands. Sowing direct in field and transplanting seedlings at 20 and 10 DAS presented the highest number of total and commercial ears, while crops obtained from direct sowing in field yielded...
