| Micropholis cf. venulosa Mart. & Eichler, conhecida como curupixá, é uma espécie arbórea que vem sendo explorada pelas industrias madeireiras do Estado do Pará. O objetivo do trabalho foi estudar as características biométricas de frutos e sementes de curupixá e avaliar o efeito do dessecamento na germinação das sementes. Determinou-se o comprimento e o diâmetro dos frutos, o número de sementes por frutos, a porcentagem de sementes danificadas por insetos e o comprimento, a largura e a espessura das sementes. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar descritores botânicoagronômicos quantitativos para caracterizar acessos de cupuaçuzeiro [Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. ex Spreng.) Schum]. Foram avaliados 53 descritores associados a características de folha (14), de flor (18), de fruto (16), e descritores agronômicos (5). No descarte dos descritores, foi empregada a técnica multivariada de componentes principais, em duas etapas. Na primeira, a seleção aconteceu dentro de cada grupo. Em seguida, foi realizada análise conjunta para a seleção final. Três critérios foram adotados para descarte das variáveis. | Pterogyne nitens Tull. (Leguminosae Caesalpinioideae), espécie florestal nativa da Mata Atlântica, é normalmente utilizada para extração de madeira. Devido à necessidade de ampliação da área produtiva com essa espécie, para fins de exploração comercial, tem-se observado maior interesse em relação às informações sobre qualidade e conservação de suas sementes. | The objective of this study was to verify the effect of drying on germination of cupuassu (Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. ex Spreng) K. Schum.) seeds. Desiccation was in forced air oven, with temperature ranging from 23 to 33ºC. Sowing was carried out at 0.5cm of depth in plastic trays in sand and sawdust mixture (1:1), previously sterilized in hot water (100ºC), during 2h. Seeds were left to germinate in a laboratory with no temperature and relative humidity control, under natural light. | The impermeability of seed coat to water is common mechanism in Fabaceae seeds. Treatments to overcome hardseededness include scarification with sulphuric acid, scarification on abrasive surface and soaking in water among others. | Pouteria pachycarpa is a tree species, found in the Brazilian Amazon and Bolivia whose wood has been exploited from the native forest. The present research describes the quantitative characteristics of fruits and seeds and quantifies the seed germination of this species. The fruit and seed color were characterized and measurements taken of the mass, length, diameter and number of seeds per fruit, the seed length, width and thickness, the germination percentage, abnormal seedlings and dead seeds. | The response of seeds to reduction in moisture content will determine whether they can be stored by conventional methods. The objective of this study was to verify the effect of desiccation on the germination and vigor of cupuassu (Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. ex Spreng.) K. Schum.) seeds, a tropical fruit species. The following seed moisture contents (SMC) were tested: 57.1%, 53.7%, 49.8%, 46.5%, 41.4%, 35.4%, 28.3%, 23.2%, 17.4%, 15.5% and 14.6%. Desiccation of seeds to as low as 41.4% (SMC) did not affect emergence, germination or vigor. However, reductions in speed of emergence were observed below 41.4%.
