The Cricetidae remains from Buñol, collected by field parties of the Department of Paleontology (State University of Utrecht, The Netherlands), are described. Three previously known species have been recognized: Megacricetodon minor primitivus (Freudenthal, 1963), Democricetodon aff. hispanicus Freudenthal, 1967 and Fahlbuschia cf. koenigswaldi (Freudenthal, 1963). One new species is described: Eumyarion valencianum. The presence of M. m. primitivus points to an Early Miocene age (collongensis Assemblage-Zone). |

The system of Neogene Mammal Zones, as originally created by Mein (1975), is discussed, and found to be confusing. The Aragonian in the type section and in the surrounding area is discussed, and the evolution of its fauna described in some detail. It appears dubious to apply the MN-zones to the faunules of the Aragonian type area. On the other hand, the type section may well serve as a basis for correlation of Miocene vertebrate localities in Spain and France and — may be — in other parts of Europe. |

This paper deals with four cricetid genera that were formerly assembled under the genus names Democricetodon and Fahlbuschia. Four new species are described, Fahlbuschia decipiens, Fahlbuschia corcolesi, Renzimys lacombai, and Pseudofahlbuschia jordensi gen. nov., sp. nov. The material studied is placed in its stratigraphic context, and appears to be most valuable for a stratigraphic subdivision of the Aragonian. The evolution and paleoecology are discussed. |

Eight rodent species from the Upper Oligocene of Pareja are described. The Theridomyidae are represented by Issiodoromys minor and Archaeomys (A.) gervaisi and the Eomyidae by Eomys cf. molassicus. Four cricetid species are described: Heterocricetodon landroveri sp. nov., Eucricetodon margaritae sp. nov., Eucricetodon cf. atavus, and Eucricetodon sp. One new glirid species, Gliravus caracensis, is recognized. The fauna of Pareja is considered to be somewhat older than that of Carrascosa del Campo, and considerably younger than that of Montalbán. |
