| GE-MIM presented a report at IODE-XVIII in April 2005, which highlighted achievements of work done and intended actions till 2007. Due to budgetary restrictions GE-MIM was unable to meet during 2006, as initially planned. It is now planned to hold the 9th Session of GEMIM in Ostende, Belgium during the latter part of 2007. | The following issues were reported to IODE XVIII by GE-MIM: - Pacific Islands Regional Group of IAMSLIC (PIRG) was re-established at 30th IAMSLIC Conference/GE-MIM VIII. - IOC Capacity survey clearly showed there is a major need for capacity building marine information and data management in the Pacific region. - Survey results have been passed on to PIRG, and GE-MIM requested PIRG develop a proposal for submission to donors. - Possible future capacity building activities in the Pacific region should be done in conjunction with/or build on any existing initiatives, such as the Pacific Islands Regional Ocean Framework for Integrated Strategic Action (PIROF-ISA). - GE-MIM Chair was to liaise further with Pacific marine librarians. The 8th Session of GE-MIM was held at CSIRO Marine Research Laboratories, Hobart, Australia in September 2004. | The Group of Experts on Marine Information Management (GE-MIM) met recently at the IODE Project Office in Oostende, Belgium (17-20 September 2007). The Group discussed a wide rang of topics and issues on marine information management and marine libraries. The Group decided to focus on clear actions that can be achieved within an inter-sessional period of one year, a it is hoped to hold GEMIM-X in September 2008. |
