Asparagus racemosus Willd., one of the most important medicinal plants, is regarded as a ‘rasayana’ in the Ayurvedic system of medicine and has been recommended for use as a galactagogue, aphrodisiac, anodyne, diuretic and nerve tonic since time immemorial, necessitating its incorporation into a number of important Ayurvedic formulations like Shatavarikalpa, Phalaghrita and Vishnutaila.
