| The urban areas in the Netherlands can be considered as a separate flora district; the so-called “Urban district”. It consists of large stony areas, with a “steppe”-like environment and a deviant climate. Characteristic for urban areas are often disturbed and trampled communities of ruderals and pioneers which are mostly dominated by species with a cosmopolitan distribution. Even more specific is the large number of thermophilic species, among which are a remarkable number of neophytes. Furthermore cities provide accomodation for wall vegetation. Plant species that show a strong preference for the urban environment are listed in Species list 1. | Iedereen kent Amsterdam van de grachten, zijn gevels, het Rijksmuseum. Amsterdam is cultuur. Maar Amsterdam is ook natuur. Melchers en Timmermans maken dat duidelijk met hun ‘Haring in het IJ’¹, waarin zij de verrassende rijkdom van het verborgen dierleven in Amsterdam presenteren. Ook wat betreft wilde planten is er in en rond de hoofdstad van alles te beleven. In het onlangs verschenen boek ‘Van muurbloem tot straatmadelief wordt de wilde flora van Amsterdam uitvoerig beschreven.² De gegevens voor het boek zijn verzameld tussen 1982 en 1992. | In Nederland is naast Cyrtomium falcatum een tweede Cyrtomium-soort verschenen: C. fortunei. Cyrtomium fortunei werd in 1992 voor het eerst in Rotterdam aangetroffen. Ook in België is de soort recent ontdekt. Inmiddels is C. fortunei op 28 locaties in de Lage Landen aangetroffen, waarvan 9 in Nederland en 19 in België. Dit artikel bevat een determinatiesleutel aan de hand waarvan beide soorten goed gedetermineerd kunnen worden. Verder gaat het artikel in op het voorkomen en de ecologie van beide soorten in de Lage Landen. Cyrtomium fortunei verkiest evenals C. falcatum stenige biotopen. | Flora and vegetation of the attractive but man-made excursion site West of Amsterdam is described, with special reference to the habitat of the rare species Carex punctata. The author agrees with Weeda 29 that the Carex punctata localities do not belong to the Armerion maritimae, but rather to a mixture of the Trifolium fragifera-Agrostietum with the Schoenum nigricantis and the Centauriosaginetum. All localities in the Westpoort-area are (positively) influenced by recreation activities. |

| In the Netherlands Asplenium adiantum-nigrum is a rare and severely threatened species. At the turn of the century the species showed a nearly continuous area in the southern part of the Province of Limburg, with one isolated outpost in the Province of Gelderland. The localities were mainly terrestrial. During the 20th century the species disappeared nearly totally from those localities. However, this loss of records has been compensated completely by a gradual extension on old walls, especially in the western parts of the Netherlands. | Marjoleinbekje (Chaenorhinum origanifolium (L.) Kostel) is een nieuwe verschijning binnen de Nederlandse flora. Sinds de komst in 1990 is de soort op 90 locaties aangetroffen. Marjoleinbekje is een typische urbane soort en een nieuw karakteristiek floraelement op oude muren. In de regel groeit de plant bovenop muurtjes en beduidend minder op zijkanten. Ook treedt Marjoleinbekje als straatplant op. Daar zoekt deze nieuwkomer de randen van het plaveisel op, vaak in de luwte van tuin- en gevelmuurtjes. Ook op andersoortige stenige terreinen kan Marjoleinbekje opduiken, meestal in stedelijk gebied en nu en dan daarbuiten en dan met name in de duinen. | De afgelopen jaren is er in en rond Amsterdam intensief naar AA-soorten gezocht. Zowel beginnende als ervaren floristen, ruim honderd in getal, namen enthousiast aan de inventarisaties deel. In ongeveer driekwart deel van het district – in circa 600 van de 815 kilometerhokken – werden AA-soorten genoteerd. In een aantal gevallen werden alleen de echte ‘eye-catchers’ aangestreept, maar voor het merendeel zijn er complete AA-lijsten gemaakt. Sommige floristen doorkruisten systematisch hele gebieden op zoek hun favoriete AA-soort(en). Met name Speenkruid ( Ranunculus ficaria kreeg veel extra belangstelling.
