The Dominican government is currently undertaking many programs in the food and fiber sector which are expected to improve agricultural sector performance which in turn is important for the development of the whole economy. Thus, it is important to identify the general strengths and weaknesses of the system "as is" in order to carefully select subsequent specific studies about the Dominican food and fiber system. Although this study is general, it is nonetheless valuable since it contributes to a basic and introductory understanding of the Dominican case.
