Intake of grazing animals is influenced by several factors, and therefore it is difficult to define an appropriate methodology for its evaluation. Variables such as the animals’ activities during grazing, forage digestibility and animal production help the choice of the best grazing method, which, by its turn, results in a more economic production. The main ways for estimating animals’ intake are the use of direct or indirect measures and the study of ingestive behavior. Direct measures have as a principle the difference of mass before and after grazing, by measuring either the animal or the pasture. Indirect methodologies are based on studies on fecal yield and digestibility, with use of indicators. A methodology that studies ingestive behavior of grazing... |
