Bodenfruchtbarkeit und biologische Vielfalt im ökologischen Landbau Organic Eprints
Mäder, Dr. Paul; Fliessbach, Dr. Andreas; Dubois, Dr. David; Gunst, Lucie; Fried, Dr. Padruot; Niggli, Dr. Urs.

Authentication of organic wheat samples from a long-term trial using biocrystallization Organic Eprints
Kahl, Dr. Johannes; Busscher, Dr. Nicolaas; Mergardt, Gaby; Mäder, Dr. Paul; Dubois, Dr. David; Ploeger, Prof. Dr. Angelika.
Organic and conventional wheat grain samples from a long-term field trial were tested with standardised biocrystallization method. In 1999-2006 the organic samples can be separated from the conventional samples using computerized texture analysis and standardised visual evaluation of the crystallization patterns. Moreover the organic samples can be classified in 2005-2006 after training in 2003.

Life cycle impact of Swiss arable cropping and forage production systems on global warming Organic Eprints
Nemecek, Dr. Thomas; Huguenin-Elie, Dr. Olivier; Dubois, Dr. David; Gaillard, Dr. Gérard.
The global warming potential caused by organic farming systems was analysed for all stages of the life cycle up to the farm gate for Swiss arable and forage production systems using the life cycle assessment method. The global warming potential of organic farming was 6 to 37% lower than that of the integrated production, the main reason being the ban of mineral nitrogen fertilisers in organic farming. A further improvement in organic systems could be achieved by a better management of the nitrogen cycle, the introduction of low tillage systems and an enhanced yield, leading to lower greenhouse gas emission per product unit.
