The Videocor 1 expedition had the double objective of conducting the first scientific cruise of the new born Hybrid-ROV Ariane and collecting data, images and samples from cold-water corals in the Parc National des Calanques, near Marseille, France. Photos and videos will be used to measure the surface covered by this ecosystem and calculate several metrics using 3D optical mapping to reconstruct geo-referenced and scaled 3D models of seafloor scenes from multiple image frames. Some colonies were also collected for the connectivity work package of the H2020-Atlas european project, both for reproductive studies of Madrepora oculata and for the assessment of Mediterranean-Atlantic genetic connectivity http://www.euatlas. org/. |
