SEARCHING FOR INCONSISTENCIES IN ORGANIC MARKET DATA – A GUIDE ON HOW TO APPLY QUALITY CHECKS FOR STATISTICS Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.
This contribution emerged as part of the collaborative project “Data network for better European organic market information” carried out in the 7th Framework Programme of the EU. Up to now, organic market data collection has been inconsistent throughout European countries; data from different organisations and/or countries is hard to compare, because very different sampling methods, product categories, and nomenclatures have been used. Interpretations based on incomplete and inconsistent data might lead to wrong decisions and misinvestments of companies or policy divisions. The objective of this contribution is the identification of inconsistencies in organic market data which is currently available throughout Europe. Therefore plausibility checks were...

D5.1 Report on the methodologies for data quality improvement along the whole supply chain Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.
Depending on the availability of data, organic as well as total data for different products, a number of checks to validate the consistency of data can be carried out. Potential quality checks were described in chapter 2.2, which includes a manual for data quality checking procedures. In the results part of this report, these checks were applied to six products from Organic Data Network partners participating in the project’s case studies.

Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.

Consumers' demand for local organic food Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.
The development of local food systems as well as the growing consumer demand for locally produced food is becoming increasingly important for producers, retailers, and politicians alike. The question arises on how consumers decide, when they have to choose between local & non-organic, local & organic, and non-local & organic products. Do local and organic food products compete against each other? Or do they complement one another? Information on consumer preferences and their willingness-to-pay is very important, as it helps to improve food marketing, communication, and policy making. Hence, it would be valuable to discuss results of current consumer research and practical experiences with practitioners, experts, and other interested parties at...

Öko und/oder Regional: Eine Studie zu Zahlungsbereitschaften Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.

Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.

Consumers’ perceptions and preferences for local food: A review Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.
This article reviews the scientific literature on local food from the consumer’s perspective and analyses findings through the application of the Alphabet Theory – a newly developed theoretical framework for consumer behavior towards alternative food choices. As consumers’ interest in local food has steadily increased in the past fifteen years, so has the number of research studies on consumers’ attitudes and purchase behavior with regard to local food. A literature search was carried out on three online catalogues using the search terms ‘local’, ‘regional’, ‘food’, and ‘consumer’. Only articles published in English and from January 2000 until January 2014 were taken into account. In all, the literature search returned 550 scientific articles. This paper...

Organic data network: Harmonising organic market data collection in Europe Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.
This contribution emerged as part of the collaborative project “Data network for better European organic market information” carried out in the 7th Framework Programme of the EU. Data from an online and a telephone survey among organic market data collectors form the basis for the analysis of the current situation of statistics on organic market data. The results reveal a heterogeneous picture, because organic market growth and data collection within the organic food sector have developed differently throughout Europe. Building on the survey results, the quality of data collection approaches is evaluated through the application of the data quality dimensions relevance, accuracy, comparability, coherence, accessibility/clarity, and timeliness/punctuality...
