Phytosociology of weed in the southwestern Goiás region Agronomy
Santos, Weverton Ferreira; Procópio, Sérgio de Oliveira; Silva, Alessandro Guerra da; Fernandes, Marcelo Ferreira; Santos, Eduardo Ribeiro dos.
Roundup Ready® technology adoption and the cultivation of a second crop have changed chemical control methods and weed management in the southwest region of Goiás State, Brazil. Considering these changes, this study aimed to perform a phytosociological survey in areas with glyphosate resistant soybeans and conventional soybeans as the main harvest and sorghum, maize, millet or fallow in succession as the second harvest. A multivariate matrix of the floristic composition was constructed, and the indicator values of the individual number and dry biomass of species were measured. Based on the number of individuals, the species Chamaesyce hirta, Bidens subalternans, and Cissampelos ovolifolia were typical of areas cultivated with glyphosate-resistant soybean,...

Screening of bacterial extracellular xylanase producers with potential for cellulose pulp biobleaching Biological Sciences
Rodrigues, Isabela da Silva Vasconcelos; Silva, Carolina Goes Silva e; Silva, Rafael Salomão da; Dolabella, Silvio Santana; Fernandes, Marcelo Ferreira; Fernandes, Roberta Pereira Miranda.
In this study, two hundred fifty-seven bacterial isolates from a suppressive soil library were screened to study their secretion of alkali-thermostable xylanases for potential use in cellulose pulp biobleaching. Xylanase activity was evaluated in solid and liquid media using xylan as the carbon source. Isolates were initially evaluated for the degradation of xylan in solid media by the congo red test. Selected strains were evaluated in liquid media for enzymatic activity and determination of total protein concentration using a crude protein extract (CPE). An isolate identified as Bacillus species TC-DT13 produced the highest amount of xylanase (1808 U mL-1). The isolate was active and stable at 70°C and pH 9.0, conditions which are necessary for the paper...
