SeaDataNet II data products: the North Atlantic Ocean Region ArchiMer
Coatanoan, Christine; Simoncelli, Simona; Schlitzer, Reiner; Fichaut, Michele; Schaap, Dick; Iona, Sissy.
During the SeaDataNet II (SDN) EU-project, a quality control (QC) strategy has been implemented and continuously reviewed aiming at improving the quality of the global dataset and creating the best products. This strategy has been developed in collaboration with MyOcean In-Situ Thematic Assemble Centre (INS-TAC) at regional levels to serve operational and scientific oceanography communities. Temperature and salinity historical data collections were created by sea basins, as aggregated datasets and climatology products, and covering the time period 1900-2013. Those ODV qualified dataset collections are available through the SDN web catalog at http://sextant.ifremer.fr/en/web/seadatanet/. The presentation highlight the quality control strategy processed for...

The Western Mediterranean Deep Water: A proxy for climate change - art. no. L12608 ArchiMer
Rixen, Michel; Beckers, J; Levitus, S; Antonov, J; Boyer, T; Maillard, Catherine; Fichaut, Michele; Balopoulos, E; Iona, S; Dooley, H; Garcia, M; Manca, B; Giorgetti, A; Manzella, G; Mikhailov, N; Pinardi, N; Zavatarelli, M.
Reconstructions of Mediterranean ocean temperature fields back to 1950 show a proxy relationship between heat content changes in the North Atlantic and the Western Mediterranean Deep Water ( WMDW) formed in the Gulf of Lions in winter, because of consistent air-sea heat fluxes over these areas, strongly correlated to the North Atlantic Oscillation ( NAO).

Temperature and Salinity (TS) historical data collections covering the time period 1900-2013 were created for each European marginal sea (Arctic Sea, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, North Sea, North Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea) within the framework of SeaDataNet2 (SDN) EU-Project and are available as ODV collections trough the SeaDataNet web catalog at http://sextant.ifremer.fr/en/web/seadatanet/. Two versions have been published and they represent a snapshot of the SDN database content at two different times: V1.1 (January 2014) and V2 (March 2015). A Quality Control Strategy (QCS) has been implemented and continuously refined in order to improve the quality of the SDN database content and to create the best product deriving from SDN data. The QCS was...

A common protocol to assemble a coherent database from distributed heterogeneous data sets: The MEDATLAS database experience ArchiMer
Fichaut, Michele; Balopoulos, Efstathios; Dooley, Harry; Garcia-fernandez, Maria; Iona, Athanasia; Jourdan, Didier; Baudet, Laurent; Maillard, Catherine.
The MEDATLAS hydrological data base, has been created by a consortium of several data centers, including HNODC (Greece), IEO (Spain), EPSHOM/CMO (French navy), IFREMERJSISMER the coordinating center (France) and ICES (Denmark) as the supervisor of the quality control procedure, in the frame of the MEDATLAS project. This project is a MAST supporting initiative for ocean data and information management. Its objectives were to assemble a comprehensive data base of temperature and salinity profiles collected in the Mediterranean sea by t he scientific laboratories and the navies, to check them for quality and to revise the climatological statistics by using this updated date set. An important part of the work has been devoted to define a common protocol to...

SeaDataNet, an enhanced ocean data infrastructure giving services to scientists and society ArchiMer
Pecci, L; Fichaut, Michele; Schaap, D.
Access to reliable and harmonised, large quantity of data has become a key topic in different fields, especially in the oceanographic sector where the cost of data sampling is very high. A huge amount of high quality marine data not only provides a basis for estimating the likelihood of occurrence of various kinds of environmental problems, but also helps to make relevant decisions about potential uses of the oceans such as renewable-energy development, aquaculture, etc. Thus, it is important to collect and make available high quality and interoperable ocean and marine observations, both at local and at global scale over several years, this is the main objective of the SeaDataNet e-infrastructure.

Using SeaDataNet Management System to preserve the XBT Data-Set of the Mediterranean Sea ArchiMer
Pecci, Leda; Ciuffardi, Tiziana; Reseghetti, Franco; Fichaut, Michele; Picco, Paola; Schaap, Dick.
significant amount of Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) data has been collected in the Mediterranean Sea since 1999 in the framework of operational oceanography activities. The management and storage of such a volume of data poses significant challenges and opportunities. The SeaDataNet project, a pan-European infrastructure for marine data diffusion, provides a convenient way to avoid dispersion of these temperature vertical profiles and to facilitate access to a wider public. The XBT data flow, along with the recent improvements in the quality check procedures and the consistence of the available historical data set are described. The main features of SeaDataNet services and the advantage of using this system for long-term data archiving are presented....

Magmatologie de la Montagne Pelée (Martinique) ArchiMer
Fichaut, Michele.
The magmatology of Mount Pelée is characterized by the competition between two major petrogenetic processes : Iractional crystallization and magma mixing. The important volcanic hazards associated with this volcano make the interest of the study: the existence of accurate datas about its geology and the chronology of its eruptions is favorable to a magmatologic study. The aim of this work, carried out within the framework of the PIRPSEV, is to determine the relative importance of the petrogenetic processes involved during the volnano history and then to conclude about the functioning of the underlying magma chambers. It is found upon the petrographical, mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of the ejecta of Mount Pelée. NOT CONTROLLED OCR

Maillard, Catherine; Balopoulos, E; Giorgetti, A; Fichaut, Michele; Iona, A; Larour, Michel; Latrouite, Armelle; Manca, B; Maudire, Gilbert; Nicolas, P; Sanchez Cabeza, J.
An advanced computer and communication technology was used to develop an integrated system and software tools for managing a great diversity of oceanographic data collected in the Mediterranean Sea during 1996-2000. Data were obtained during 108 sea cruises, carried out within the framework of the large-scale international research project MATER (mass transfer and ecosystem response), which was financially supported by the Marine Science and Technology (MAST) Programme of the European Union (EU). Data collection involved the active participation of various research vessels and personnel coming from 58 different laboratories of 13 countries. Data formatting as well as automatic and visual data quality controls were implemented using internationally accepted...
