The HaPoGé survey was planned due to a scientific opportunity tender for the HROV Ariane, it follows the test AtlantHrov campaign technique, which took place from May 26 to June 9, 2017. HaPoGé is the first scientific cruise of the HROV Ariane in Atlantic ocean, aboard a coastal vessel the “Côtes de la Manche”. It took place from July 12 to July 19, 2017. The HROV dives were located in the Capbreton canyon. This survey involved scientist from Ifremer, Bordeaux and Pau universities. It had several objectives: i) to know the morphology of rockfall and sediment areas, ii) to sample in situ the rocky outcrops and characterize the benthic communities and iii) to determine the nature, levels of concentrations and distribution of contaminants in sediments and the... |

The spatial distributions of (1) surface sediment characteristics (D0.5, Sediment Surface Area (SSA), Particulate Organic Carbon (POC), Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), Phaeophytin-a (Phaeo-a), Total and Enzymatically Hydrolyzable Amino Acids (THAA, EHAA), δ13C) and (2) sediment profile image (apparent Redox Potential Discontinuity (aRPD), numbers and depths of biological traces) characteristics were quantified based on the sampling of 32 stations located within the West Gironde Mud Patch (Bay of Biscay, NE Atlantic) in view of (1) assessing the spatial structuration of a temperate river-dominated ocean margin located in a high-energy area, (2) disentangling the impacts of hydrodynamics and bottom trawling on this structuration, and (3) comparing the West Gironde... |

The Capbreton submarine canyon is a striking feature of the south-east of the Bay of Biscay. This canyon forms a deep incision through the continental shelf and slope, and displays remarkable structures linked to its present-day hydrosedimentary activity. Its head has been disconnected from the Adour River since 1310 CE, but remains close enough to the coast to be supplied with sediment by longshore drift. Gravity processes in the canyon body are abundantly described and documented, but activity in the head and the fan of the canyon is poorly constrained. Furthermore, many questions remain regarding the details of processes affecting the head, the body and the fan of the Capbreton canyon. In this work, we address the paucity of documentation concerning (1)... |
