Validation de l’indice composition IC Medit pour les eaux côtières de Corse et de la région PACA. Action 3. Indice Composition. Livrable n° B. Rapport final, juillet 2014. ArchiMer
Goffart, Anne; Andral, Bruno.
The aim of this study is to show the current status of the development and use of the new IC Medit phytoplankton composition index as a sub-metric within the phytoplankton quality element in assessing phytoplankton quality in Mediterranean coastal waters. IC Medit uses pigment concentrations determined by HPLC for assessing phytoplankton composition. Focusing on coastal waters of Corsica, we (i) described the seasonal succession of the main phytoplankton groups in reference conditions, (ii) studied responses of phytoplankton groups to well identified drivers, (iii) assessed the shift of the seasonal succession of phytoplankton groups from the reference conditions in impacted areas, (iv) revealed pressure / impact relationships between nutrients and...

CEAMARC, the Collaborative East Antarctic Marine Census for the Census of Antarctic Marine Life (IPY # 53): An overview ArchiMer
Hosie, Graham; Koubbi, Philippe; Riddle, Martin; Ozouf-costaz, Catherine; Moteki, Masato; Fukuchi, Mitsuo; Ameziane, Nadia; Ishimaru, Takashi; Goffart, Anne.
The Census for Antarctic Marine Life (CAML, IPY Project 53) aimed to investigate the distribution and abundance of Antarctic marine biodiversity and how it will be affected by climate change. It was a major ship-based research programme in the austral summer of 2007-2008 involving scientists from 30 countries and 19 vessels. The Collaborative East Antarctic Marine Census (CEAMARC) was a multinational contribution to CAML involving scientists and students from several nations using three ships from Australia, Japan and France surveying the one area. This collaboration was a highly coordinated and comprehensive survey of the plankton, fish, benthos, oceanography and geophysical conditions of the waters north of Terre Adelie and George V Land of Eastern...

Interannual variability of zooplankton in the Dumont d'Urville sea (139 degrees E-146 degrees E), east Antarctica, 2004-2008 ArchiMer
Swadling, Kerrie M.; Penot, Florian; Vallet, Carole; Rouyer, Armelle; Gasparini, Stephane; Mousseau, Laure; Smith, Martina; Goffart, Anne; Koubbi, Philippe.
Spatial and temporal variability of zooplankton was studied during five summers (2004-2008) in the Dumont d'Urville Sea, east Antarctica. The species recorded, based on the catch of a 500 mm-mesh Bongo net, were typical of southern continental shelf communities in Antarctica, including Euphausia crystallorophias, polychaetes, pteropods and biomass-dominant copepods. There was a strong degree of temporal variation in abundance, possibly related to the thickness and extent of the sea ice cover during each spring prior to the surveys. Total mean abundance was highly variable between years, with a minimum of 961 ind. 1000m(-3) in 2004 (range 65-3407 ind. 1000 m(-3)) and a maximum of 15,627 ind. 1000 m(-3) in 2005 (range 5109-33,869 ind. 1000 m(-3)). Spatially,...

Annual variation in neustonic micro- and meso-plastic particles and zooplankton in the Bay of Calvi (Mediterranean–Corsica) ArchiMer
Collignon, Amandine; Hecq, Jean-henri; Galgani, Francois; Collard, France; Goffart, Anne.
The annual variation in neustonic plastic particles and zooplankton was studied in the Bay of Calvi (Corsica) between 30 August 2011 and 7 August 2012. Plastic particles were classified into three size classes, small microplastics (0.2–2 mm), large microplastics (2–5 mm) and mesoplastics (5–10 mm). 74% of the 38 samples contained plastic particles of varying composition: e.g. filaments, polystyrene, thin plastic films. An average concentration of 6.2 particles/100 m2 was observed. The highest abundance values (69 particles/100 m2) observed occurred during periods of low offshore wind conditions. These values rose in the same order of magnitude as in previous studies in the North Western Mediterranean. The relationships between the abundance values of the...

Satellite and In Situ Monitoring of Chl-a, Turbidity, and Total Suspended Matter in Coastal Waters: Experience of the Year 2017 along the French Coasts ArchiMer
Gohin, Francis; Bryère, Philippe; Lefebvre, Alain; Sauriau, Pierre-guy; Savoye, Nicolas; Vantrepotte, Vincent; Bozec, Yann; Cariou, Thibault; Conan, Pascal; Coudray, Sylvain; Courtay, Gaelle; Françoise, Sylvaine; Goffart, Anne; Hernández Fariñas, Tania; Lemoine, Maud; Piraud, Aude; Raimbault, Patrick; Rétho, Michael.
The consistency of satellite and in situ time series of Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), Turbidity and Total Suspended Matters (TSM) was investigated at 17 coastal stations throughout the year 2017. These stations covered different water types, from relatively clear waters in the Mediterranean Sea to moderately turbid regions in the Bay of Biscay and the southern bight of the North-Sea. Satellite retrievals were derived from MODIS/AQUA, VIIRS/NPP and OLCI-A/Sentinel-3 spectral reflectance. In situ data were obtained from the coastal phytoplankton networks SOMLIT (CNRS), REPHY (Ifremer) and associated networks. Satellite and in situ retrievals of the year 2017 were compared to the historical seasonal cycles and percentiles, 10 and 90, observed in situ. Regarding the...
